Contract issues with ushopwireless/Venicom

I received my 8700g today, with one surprise. The contract that was included indicated a two year service agreement. When I first found the deal on-line (on April 1), the ushopwireless site indicated that it only required a one year agreement. I confirmed this when I ordered from the sales agent. In fact, ushopwireless continued to promote that deal well after April 1.

I called today to find out what happened. The customer service rep indicated that T-Mobile as of April 1 is requiring two year contracts. He gave me the choice of accepting the two year contract or returning the phone. He also mentioned that ushop is receiving dozens of calls from fellow annoyed customers.

I feel that this is an unacceptable response. Wondering how many others out there have had similar experiences, and if you are getting the same response. I would hope ushop/Venicom would make good on their advertised deal.

Appreciate hearing from you on this. Thanks. Daniel

It is wrong but a place like ushop may have such a thin profit margin that it will not be worth opening up for the next week due to losses. If you send the phone back it has to be sold as refurbished. They lose money there. Or someone will. Maybe faced with the return of all these phones they can make a deal with you. This is a time when it helps to be in a large pack.

Facing the same issue, I spoke to a customer service rep. today and received similar response. Folks on the same boat please speak up.

The least Venicom can do is to notify us regarding the contract
change, rather than lock people in with services that they never agree to purchase in the first place.

I'm in retail, and my best suggestion is to threaten them with a credit card dispute and make them pick up the phone at their cost! I'm sure at this point, they will try their best to help you..

I just ordered a BB 8700G from them today, and the guy said if I wanted a one year contract, its an extra $50 charge.. I hope all goes well!! Cant wait for my BB!

For those of you having problems, did you pay extra for
a 1 year contract or was the contract 1 year without any extra
charge?

I bought today and paid the extra $50 for the 1 year contract.

I guess I'll know tomorrow when it arrives.

ChopSticks 04-19-2006 09:49 PM

Wow, how did you get it so fast?

skyman 04-19-2006 09:57 PM

I paid an extra $10 for overnight ship. I got the fedex tracking number so I know it's on it's way.

ChopSticks 04-19-2006 10:09 PM

Hmm.. the rep told me that its $29.99 to ship 2nd day air and that it also takes an additional 2 days to have it process...

skyman 04-19-2006 10:12 PM

Was that ushopwireless/Venicom?

It says right in there Q&A that overnight ship was $10 more and any order by noon (I think it was) was shipped the same day.

I just got my 8700 I ordered yesterday from ushopwireless/Venicom. It doesn't show any contract time in the invoice but I called and they confirmed that I'm on 1 year. I paid the extra $50 for the 1 year contract.

Contract dilemma

I have been given the same option - add $50 for one year contract. Here is the question. I locked in at 1500 minutes for $39, plus the t-mobile data cost, which is less than the other providers. Seems to me that getting a two year contract at these rates isn't a bad thing - because they are likely to go up, right? The 1500 minute deal isn't around anymore, for example... Thoughts? Love some guidance on this....
