Considering that many smart phones are coming into the market, will they all require a data service? Is there a cheaper way of getting my emails?

Many ISP's offer wifi throughout large cities, so purchasing a handheld that can connect via wifi will not require you to purchase a data plan. However you must have some sort of wifi acct to connect (such as T-Mobile's in Starbucks, etc..).
