Lightbulb Here's a Bizarre BES Mail Fix

Please Login to Remove!

I am on a BES server with Mailstreet with Cingular as my service provider. I am a big Mailstreet fan.

For the last 10 hours my BlackBerry 8700c was not updating my email. Outlook and Outlook on the Web was fine – I could send and receive when I was off the BlackBerry.

On my BlackBerry I could send and get PIN messages. I could not send a standard email from my BB nor could I receive one.

A soft/hard reset did not make a difference.

Mailstreet forcing an update to my BlackBerry did not work.

Mailstreet told me they have only seen this kind of problem in the past when a BlackBerry was dropped or when the battery runs down too low to make everything go wacky – you can see down what road they were leading me...

However… neither of those things happened in my case and the fact that my wife's BlackBerry was behaving in an identical manner showed something else was going on other than dropping...

Mailstreet said they'd call RIM and then call me back.

20 minutes later everything was magically working again. I asked Mailstreet what RIM did and Mailstreet "was not sure."

Mailstreet told me "RIM disconnected and then reconnected both accounts and that fixed it." Mailstreet said in a year of providing BlackBerry support they had never heard of this “fix” or why it worked.

Any idea what happened?

I'm glad everything is zinging again, but without knowing what or why it happened I am a little wary it might happen again. Mailstreet noted my account with the RIM resolution, so I hope that will help in the future.

We also had several of our Mailstreet hosted 8700's stop receiving mail last night around 10:40 and magically started back about 9:00 eastern this morning. I was getting ready to call Mailstreet but then they just started working.

Mark!

That is precisely what happened to us! Wild! Maybe RIM had to unplug everyone on Mailstreet or something because we stopped getting mail last night at 10:50pm -- and we get a lot of mail all the time so when it stops for even 3 minutes we know something's wrong. I called Mailstreet at 8:15am. They called RIM at 8:26am. I had all my mail back working at 8:51am!

Default Same problem here

I provide technical consulting services around Chicago and this has been a problem for myself and two other clients - They call me up and say "Mail stopped again" and I say "Pop the battery" and then it works again. It's frustrating. I've not seen a patch or fix yet.
