Default Auto-Keyboard Lock Not Working

Please Login to Remove!

Search Disclaimer: I searched for auto + keyboard + lock + holster without success, so I'm posting my question.

Anyhow, I have keyboard lock upon holstering enabled on my new 8700c. I'm using the provided holster. Only about 50% of the time when I remove the device from the holster it is locked. The other 50% of the time I realize that I've either pressed some keys or initiated a call.

The magnet is clearly visible in the holster and the device fits snugly.

The only mod I have made is installing Bharti (hoping for better ring and speaker volumes).

Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

You might have a defective holster. I assume you are using the stock plastic holster?

Try going to your local store and see if it is working properly with a different holster.

If not then you might have a defective unit.

One more thing (I gotta ask) if the unit is in the plastic holster correctly you should not be able to hit any keys.

The screen on the unit faces in, not out. I only state this because I have seen people running around with the screen facing out.

When the unit is in the holder properly you should only see the battery cover.

It's facing in. I'm not that stupid, though I appreciate your thorough-ness. You've got to put a little pressure on the back of the device to slide it out. When I first look at the device after "de-holstering" the phone screen is usually active with a # and/or * and/or 5 in the phone number dialing dialog.

I did not mean to imply that you were 'stupid' and I don't think anyone who puts it in the wrong way is stupid. New / 1st time BB users have a learning curve that's all.

Best of luck with your issue.

poor choice of words on my part ...

anyhow, when I wave the keyboard directly over the magnet on the back of holster, it locks 100% of the time. It just doesn't always lock when in the holster. I think this points to a bad holster, like you said, not a software issue.

Thanks For your Help!

I am using an old 7290 holster on the 8700 and have the same problem with the keyboard not always locking.

I assigned my side key to lock the keyboard, and while it's a pain, it solves my problem until I get an aftermarket 8700 holster.

This ocurred to me when I upgraded to Bharti and Telstar. It changes your holster lock preferences to 'off' when you ipgraded to Bharti. Go to:

Security Options>General Settings>Lock Handheld Upon Holstering and change the option from NO to YES. Than took care of mine.

If the settings were the problem then it would not work half the time.

my settings are correct ... it must have something to do with the holster (the way the magnet communicates with the handheld). I'll go to the cingular store today and see if they'll give me a new holster.
