Strange failed attempt to unlock Zen in Rogers .284
 

I got my new 8700 today. (Problem with the microphone on the old one was covered by warranty.)

So I decided to be intrepid and edit the blackberry.alx file in the Rogers version of .284. I was careful, followed jibi's instructions, and was quite sure I did it right. But when I went to load, it refused me access saying that the browser could not be installed because net.rim.blackberry.xml was missing.

So I installed Bharti instead with jibi's blackberry.alx file. All is fine (but perhaps for the Hindi radio stacks).

I had previously installed the Rogers .284 successfully without editing the blackberry.alx file as part of the warranty testing on the old unit before I sent it back. So... I wonder what went wrong in my edit to unlock Zen that would cause this crucial file to be missing?

Did you just 'save' or 'save as'

If you save as it will save the file as txt and not alx

Could be the problem.

Yikes. I think you might have it. It showed as a text file icon after I saved...

Well, I'm back to Bharti and probably will be lazy and stay there.

No problem, just download a new alx file and in the future don't 'save as' after editing it :)

Interesting... I actually used the Save icon in Notepad, and I see now that Notepad is permanently associated with .alx files so I didn't necessarily change the file's format.
But I might have. I certainly did something to screw up the file.

just so you know, the BlackBerry.alx file has nothing to do with the radio code. that is loaded in Platform.alx.
