Default 8700c Cingular Internet Question

Please Login to Remove!

I've been reading these forums for a few hours now and I still am confused on some issues.

First, today I went and bought a Cingular 8700c blackberry. I didn't get any sort of data plan because I just graduated college and can't afford that hefty 50 bucks extra on top of the 60 already for the normal plan.

I tried to do all the tcp changes and settings but nothing worked for me. Is this because I don't have a data plan?

I mean I don't even see a web browers icon, or email, on my desktop for the blackberry.

Can I tell them to add the 50 buck unlimited data plan then cancel it to unlock these items? Would I be able to use the modified tcp settings then?

Oh man... I'm so lost.

Can anyone help set me straight? Am I doomed to paying a huge phone bill just to surf the net and send email?

also I have the "data connection refused" message on my screen, that I expect is because I don't have a data plan... ha?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

You are correct! You are doomed to get the data plan.

Data connection refused is because you have no data plan. A data plan is needed for email and the web. Without a data plan you have a sweet looking phone and sms machine.

I don't understand these questions. Do people expect to be able to make and receive calls without a voice plan? Or drive cars without fuel? It seems pretty straightforward to me but ok...

I'd definitely recommend checking into TMO if the coverage works for you.

I cant see buying a $200+ piece of equipment without first doing the research as to what it can or cannot do or what it needs to do it with.

The whole reason I switched to Cingular is because my girlfriend is on that network.

I now see T-Moble does have the best plans for data.

I should have done more research into it, but I guess I can live with 90 bucks a month... it's only for 2 years *sigh* haha.

Thanks for the help everyone. I had Cingular hook me up with the unlimited data plan.

Now I'm off to read about TCP settings and find one that works for me. Then get Ramble goin.

You cant just put on the data plan and then turn it off, the lock is the plan so once you turn it off, it turns off.
