After a rebate, the 8700c is free from Amazon. However, once the rebate is submitted, Amazon will not accept returns. If the device malfunctions, who will fix it during the warranty period - RIM? Cingular?

According to Amazon.com:
"The phone comes with a one-year limited warranty."

I'm pretty sure Cingular would be responsible for warranty work. Regardless of who provides the warranty, according to Amazon.com you are covered for 1 year.
