Please Login to Remove!

Hello one and all,

Just a quick message wanted to find out if the 8700 range use any form of memory cards to store data on? SD cards? Mini SD? etc?

Regards

Paul

The 8700 has 64MB storage. I would love to see an external memory card slot, but that's probably still a ways away.

have been digging about and im not sure if BB will allow exernal memory card slots for security reasons. Some of the prime reasons government and other high profile companies like BB is that you can tie them down so well. I guess adding a card slot will or could weaken the security of data on the unit.

unless they can tie that down somehow with a policy or something... will be interesting to see how things move toward though.

There are plenty of threads that discuss this here. Security is the key reason (which is why you also don't see cameras on BlackBerry devices). Some people see it as a drawback, others (like myself) understand that many corporations need to prevent users from taking sensative data outside of the workplace on memory cards and the like - just look at how many laptops the MOD have lost or left in the back of taxis in the last couple of years, you can't remote kill them!!!
