Hello All,

My wife's ATTW 7290 intermittently loses the wireless signal and reports "No Service". Once in a while it comes on and everything works.

I've set it to Manual Mode and scan for the available services. Often, it fails to locate, even though we live in a 5-bar area. I try selecting Cingular or iWireless (a T-Mobile affiliate) and it'll work for a while. Automatic mode is less reliable.

It loses battery power in a day, apparently from seeking too much.

I've swapped our SIM cards and the problem still exists on her 'Berry only.

Cingular Tech Support was quick to want to sell a brand new 7290 for $199 to replace it. Of course, he's have to sell us an unlocked one for our SIMs to work, but I didn't let him get that far yet.

The problem showed up about 3 weeks ago. Upgrading to 4.1 didn't help.

I guess one thing I could try is swapping batteries for a day.

how long have you had it? You could try a complete wipe and reload of the OS but a replacement may be the way to go.

A year and a half. Warranty and contractual obligations expired.

I'll try the wipe.

Wiped Handheld and restored.

java.lang.NullPointerException showed up afterwards.

Gonna fully wipe the OS later.

Duh.. That's what you recommended in the first place.

I haved tmobile and having the same issues with my 7290, the exact same issues, tmobile told me they were doing updates in my area but I've been having the same problem for almost 2 months. I opened my bb and put aluminum foil near the internal antenna and above the battery, now it holds a pretty constant signal compared to before. I now lose the signal anywhere from once to a few times a day.

I'm noticing some things I need to watch. It seems to only work in the morning and late in the evening, but for short intervals. Mid-day = nothing.

I even left it on overnight while plugged into the USB. Next morning, it was still on. Weird.

I'll probably have to spring for a PayPal account and grab one of those unlocked deals in the buy/sell/trade forum.

My wife replaced her Cingular 7290 by starting a new contract with T-Mobile and received her new 8700g on-site at the National Association of the Deaf Conference.

We did not see the point of continuing her service through Cingular as they charge $35 for data only, compared to TMO's $30/mo.
