Default Annoying 8700x Case Chase! A rant everyone should read...

Please Login to Remove!

So after 3 weeks, 3 cases and about $70.00 spent. I must say that nothing works!

My lightly used, never dropped 8700g looks like it went war. And I thought that the dark plastic shell would hold up better than the grey 8700c shell.

Although I admit that the 8700g is an amazing tool, RIM has done an absolutely AWFUL job in the quality department.

I've owned every BB device that came out (except the 71xx series) since 2003, and I must say that the 8700x series has the cheapest exterior ever.

I have a feeling that I will be replacing the 8700g before X-mas, not because I've dropped it or it was stolen, but because of needless wear and tear on a poorly built (but beautifully designed) smartphone.

I've noticed that even the amazing Siedio holster wears the paint off at certain parts of the 8700g (pictures coming).

I don't blame Siedio, their cases are absolutely amazing.

It seems that the only way I'm going to upkeep my 8700g through is to wrap it in clear plastic seran wrap and stick it in a milante case.

So far the most secure slim case I've found for the 8700x series that is not leather or bulky and DOES NOT leave the edges, back and top exposed, is the Milante Case.

All this time we were blaming cases...when we should be yelling at RIM to use sturdier plastics and parts and paint that stays the hell on the 8700x series!!!

Okay, before I get banned, again...
I will post pictures later today of why the Siedio holster is not a perfect solution and I will re-review the Milante case as the safest, slimmest and cheapest contender for an 8700x series holster.

I will post pictures as well, since not everyone is expected to agree on my word for what I went thru with these cases and holsters.

I'm doing this because I think its fair and democratic that BB customers get an open, non bias view on what case does what.

I don't represent any personal or commercial websites or companies selling cases. I'm just like the average joe here who just spent good money on an 8700x smartphone and extra monthly money on data plans and want to up keep their investment.

If you are so concerned about marks on the exterior of your device why not simply invest in a set of
the Invisible Skin or Best Skins Ever?

Hi Lgreenberg,
I already did. It will also be mentioned in my review. Also I'm not blaming the makers of the cases and the holsters.

Siedio does great work and has designed one of the best holsters you can buy for the 8700x series. I do not regret my siedio purchase,

I only regret that RIM's 8700g has the cheapest plastic and paint job I've seen since the days I used to gnaw the paint off my Transformers and G.I JOE toys.

When I get home this evening I will take a few pictures and write up a nice piece on these cases, hoslters and the handset.

Thanks guys,
Delmarco

I just like my plain old OEM leather case for my 8700c. Can't imagine using anything else. It may be a little bulky, but it protects my bb nicely. And IMHO, has the best belt clip of em all.

It's basically all I've used since the day it arrived.

delmarco,
If you have been using the InvisibleSHEILD skins, then I fail to see how this could be happening. The ones designed for the G model cover the entire device, top to bottom. I am very interested in seeing these scratches, because in order for them to happpen they would have to scratch through the skins, which would be a design flaw for the skinmakers they would be interested in learning about. I have the InvisibleSHIELD on my C, but they don't make the sides yet, so they sent me some G sides to test (didn't fit right, so they are desigining some for the C as we speak). But the ones that are securely on my C certainly prevent ANY scratches - I have dropeed it once already with no damage on the covered places.

Anyway, please post some good pics (don't use Larry's camera ) as soon as you can.

Unless you mean the aftermarket one that cingular sells.

i use the 8700g OEM case like i purcahsed from smart phone depot and it's GREAT... it's a little on the padded side but that makes for better protection incase it falls. not to mentio i can still put it into my pocket. you wrangler people out there wouldn't be able to do this though.

Yep, that's the one. If you haven't tried this one, then I'd give it a whirl. I'll use nothing else for the life of my bb.

Seattle18, it's not the camera that's the problem, it's the person operating it.

delmarco, since Cingular is a network provider not an equipment provider they wouldn't release anything OEM. We're speaking of the RIM leather pouch.

Take a look at the Nutshell cases. I have one I have been using with my old 8700c and now that I have the 8700g, it works well with it also. The only part I do not like is that the BB has to be inserted with the screen facing out for the sleeper magnet to work.

Otherwise the case is excellent ! I have owned several of thier cases for my devices and have never been disappointed with any of them. I always order the belt loop version so I do not have to worry about clips and things falling off my waist.

You could always use my favorite, extra protection case. Use it all the time when I cycle on the weekends. A plastic baggie. Take the clip off any case, insert BB in case in baggie. Voila. Not what you imagined I am sure.
