I think ahhpff found your Blackberry:
Have 7290 but found 8700R

Unfortunately, I think that someone with a SIM card is probably home free. This is why I have a Security Time-out set. Even if it is set for the maximum one hour (minimum inconvenience), at some point the offending party is going to sleep and when they do, they wake-up to a useless Blackberry. Even if they wipe it, they need the password to get back in.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 8700c: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

You are pretty much out of luck :( unless you had security set. Sorry for your loss

That stinks! Why don't some people just get a job and buy their own stuff instead of being a low life thief?

Call Cingular and see if they can have the PIN/IMEI marked as lost/stolen that way if someone tries to activate their SOL and maybe some way of tracking it down.

I would think Cingular would be able to lock out the IMEI number from their own systems but if the thief unlocks it, then I can't see someone being able to call every service provider to lock out that IMEI number. I would call Cingular at the minimum.

I can't speak for Cingular, but when I had a Tmo BB, it was stolen, and I was able to call them immediately and have the IMEI locked. While they had my info on the BB, there's no way they would be able to use it for phone/data.

I assume that Cingular would be the same (that's who I have now).

Go to Options, Security Options, General Settings and set the Security Time-out for a specified period of time. One hour is the maximum and that works very well.

To help encourage people to return your BB, or whatever you lost for that matter, you can use a "Help me return my lost thingamajig" web site. I have not yet used one of these, but the news articles that mention them do so on a positive note.

You Loose It
Someone finds it.
They call in the sticker on the back of the item
They get a reward.
you get your stuff back for a small "finders fee"

everyone is happy.

http://www.stuffbak.com it one.
www.woomerangit or something like that is another.

I am considering it as I write this.

Of course this only helps if this is all set up BEFORE you loose it.

Or on the screen that shows up when it locks when you holster it in the case, I just put my home number, address, and name. That way if i lost it my info is right there....every time they holster it and take it out, it would show up!

I also did that too together with the sticker on the owner info under option, but only name and phone number.
