Default Changing "pull/push" time?

Please Login to Remove!

I apologize if this has already been discussed elsewhere; I looked and couldn't find it.

I understand that the BB is set to 'retrieve' e-mail every 15 minutes for my POP account. Is it possible to have this changed to say, every five minutes? Or is there a way I can manually retrieve my e-mail on my BB instead of waiting until it's pushed through? I travel a lot and like to be quick in my responses to e-mail sent to my POP account, but mail isn't being sent through until 10, 15 minutes later.

I am a former SK2 user, trying to get used to the TINY keyboard and all the features on this pager.

You obviously didn't search.

The Blackberry isn't a pager, and the keyboard is small, but suitable for most of everyone's needs here.

To answer your question, not you can't change the time, but you can, in the mailbox click the trackwheel and scroll down to reconcile now. If you want true-life, real time synchronization do a search for hosted Blackberry Enterprise Server solutions.

The BlackBerry is not checking for messages on any set interval. That is the beauty of PUSH email. As soon as the server gets the messages it is sent directly to the BlackBerry. What your experiencing is the current limitations of BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service). You have your BIS account configured to check your POP email. The BIS server only polls POP3 every 15 minutes and can not be modified.

You have a couple of options to speed up the deilvery of email.
  1. Hosted BES service. This will cost you additional monthly fees on top of what your already paying.
  2. Forward your POP mail to your BIS email account. Mail will be sent directly to your BlackBerry as soon as the BIS email address gets the message.

A member of this forum(stinsondog) has a wepage "how to" for using Gmail to accomplish instant e-mail. I use it and love it. I am on Cingular and use outlook to pop to my PC also.

See webpage here:

Be sure to thank Stinsondog for all his hard work compiling this info!

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone!

As for the word "pager" - gee! Semantics. I think most people know what I mean when I say that. That has nothing to do what I was asking, anyway.

I appreciate the help here, it's great! Thanks again.

cidamon,
what was your solution? Post it so others can see your answer when they search a similar problem.

Is the SK2 a pager?

We're protective of our blackberry's feelings by getting lumped in with Smartphones, phones, and pagers....

My blackberry jsut about jumped out of my friends hand whe nhe was like "so how much did this phone cost?" LOL...

I learned lastn ight, you have to talk nice to your blackberry, even if the keyboard is on strike.
