Default Lotus Notes folder question on new 7100g

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone!! Glad to find the site and looking for some technical assistance. I recently got a BB7100G (4.0) on Cingular. I have it set up to retrieve mail from a POP acct thru the web client, and set up with our BES (2.2) for work mail on Lotus Notes (6.5). I'd like to be able to file my mail on both the Web Client and in LN, but when I select a message to file (forwarded from LN acct), I am only able to see the folders for my Web Client set up, and none of my LN folders. We have other users on BBs who have been able to file to their personal folders in LN, but NO other users have a Web Client in use as well - which our IT staff wont support. So, I am asking for someone who can shed some light on why I cannot see the LN folders as well as the Web Client folders.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
Renee

I have noticed the same thing, but thought it was because I have a 7290 and am running the HK version of 4.0. The wierd thing is that you can view folders from Lotus Notes, just can not file them...
Before I went to the HK 4.0 version I could file messages...
Maybe it is a 4.0 problem/feature? Anyone else have the same problem?

I can't see my folders at all from LN...only the web client. I may be the only corp user with a 4.0 handheld. I've seen somewhere that another user complained of this issue, but I cannot seem to find the posting again.

If you go to "Options" in your mailbox and go to "View Folders" do you see your name followed by your LN domain? You are using a BES? Correct?

Yes, I am using a BES (ver 2.2). Not sure which mailbox you mean...LN or on the BB?? On the BB, my only choices after Messages:Options: is General Options or Email Reconciliation. I use wireless reconciliation.

Sorry, my fault. Just go in the general menu in your inbox and go to "View Folder".

WOW!! So many things to learn!! Ok...yes, all of my LN folders are there, but when I select a message and view it, my only options after I select "File" are my Web Client folders. Whats the deal???

Not sure what the deal is... Problem or feature, I am not sure. Maybe it is because our BES is not 4.0 yet...

Any Exchange users out there with 4.0? Can you file messages in personal folders with 4.0?

I just had my 7100g activated today at work and I could file in my LN folders. Then I installed some themes using the applications loader and my LN folders disappeared. Were you able to resolve the missing LN folder issue? FYI, our BES is not 4.0 yet.

Nope...no resolution yet. The only thing that I installed was the Blackberry browser. I've not installed any themes yet. Can you see your folders when you select View Folders from the Messages menu?

Yes, I can see the folders when I select view folder, but when I go to file a message, only Web Client folders appear. I had the ability to file in my LN folders this morning, now I don't. UGH.

I'm just going to give my views and maybe this will strike some idea from someone that has tested this more than I. I said something a while back about encryption keys etc. For those of you with 4.0 that do an enterprise activation and then use the desktop manager to do things, it seems to me from what I will tell you next that the encryption keys can get screwed up.

Now I had 4.0 BES and 4.0 Handheld. It worked beautiful, so I wanted to use the BWC as well. I set it up, had it send the service book and it all seemed to work fine. Then I hooked up to a local machine to export my clients to my home laptop. Once I let it do an encryption key all went to hell, well sorta. I could not send a reply message, couldn't see folders, wireless reconcile didn't work.

For me I fixed this by requesting a new encryption key from the handheld and reregistering.

I'm a bit wary of telling folks they can reliably use a BES accoutn and a BWC account on the same device. In my testing, which has been short, it can cause odd things and limit functionality of one or the other mail systems.

I won't be able to recommend it until I figure it out in detail, but wanted to give you these ideas as they may spark something for you.

Shawn

Thanks for the suggestions Shawn. It very well could be an encryption key. Will be interesting to test once we get BES 4.0.

Just incase you don't know, you can still redo the encryption key with the desktop software.

Open the desktop manager with the device connected. Open Redirector settings, open security tab, change to generate keys manually, generate a new key. I always set it back to automatic after that.

Our BES admin doesn't like the fact that I too have a web client and the BES sending me mail. Seems as though people have a general uneasy feeling about using the two together, but forgive me here since I'm a newbee, but isn't that what the BB is designed to do?

I will manually create a key again tomorrow and see if it helps. I seem to think there's a bigger problem here than just that though, otherwise, how would I be receiving mail and seeing my address book and such.

Well from an administrators perspective the device is intended to get you enterprise mail and information. As you can see by reading through the forums, when the end user gets involved in adding things and making changes then it can become compliated. Since the administrator is, in the end, responsible for making your device work they do not like the fact that the end user has corrupted what they know to work by trying to view your personal mail etc. You have to understand that you as an end user with one device, it doesn't seem that bad to you, but when you have hundreds or thousands to support and that is not your full time position, you attempt to make things as stable as you can, when you find that someone installed AOL or Coke Wars and it jacked the device, doesn't make ya feel to sorry for them.

As well the end user will complain about how horrible the device and service is to everyone, and leave out the fact that they were the one that did it to themselves

Been there, done that. The admins job is not an easy one, we get no credit for doing things right, and get blamed for everything that goes wrong

I will be the support contact shortly for our site, so its my job to anticipate what users may do, and try to 'break' the device, and then learn how to fix it. I've got 30 days...well, 22 now. I already support our Palm devices, and yes, users drive me nuts. So, I tend to push a little to see what it takes to break it before they do. Never thought that getting mail from the Web Client and a BES would 'break' it. I'm not totally sold that it has. I've searched many forums over the last several days looking for an answer to this dilemma, and chose to stop here an post the problem since this forum seems to be one of the best. Users are always the best problem solvers!!

So, my dilemma continues, and I will continue to ask the question until someone provides a logical reason why this wont work. Surely someone out there knows....

The BB works fine getting e-mail from a BES and the BWC. You just have to look to see what account you are sending from when you create an e-mail. I don't think that is what "broke" (if it ever worked) the e-mail filing in 4.0

I created a new encryption key with no change...

This is an issue with the software...

I had a 7280 for over a year (currently using a 7100g fine) that I upgraded from 3.6 -> 3.7 -> 4.0 and with one specific version of BB 4.0 OS ....the Australia Telestra or something version.

With that version after a day or two, I'd have the problem that is described...when trying to file a message it wouldn't show the right folder, etc. etc.

I reinstalled a different version of 4.0 and it worked fine...

With my 7100g it's been fine too...

Try reinstalling the software...

After trying several things, the solution was wiping the unit and reinstalling the handheld software. We also had to wipe my LN folders in the BES and let the server reacquire them (not sure if I'm saying this correctly). I now have my LN folders back and can file messages from the handheld. I'm not sure, but I think I lost my LN folders when I installed the 7100 themes that I downloaded from this site. Now I'm skiddish about loading any other applications using the applications loader.
