Angry ugh... sms, mms, email... how do i just text?!?

Please Login to Remove!

so i want to send a simple text message... how do i do it? i see i can compose an email, mms... but no text message.

blackberry just told me that in order to send a simple text message i have to compose a new email and fully address it??

so if i want to send a text to someone at cingular i need [email address]?!?! how is that right?

so i cant simply put a phone number like you can with every other provider in the world? can someone please straighten this out for me?

SMS is your simple text message. MMS is multimedia messages. PIN messages are simple text message that can only be sent or received by another BlackBerry.

If you want to send a text message to a phone number just put that in as the addressee. You dont need the @something.cingular.com at the end.

Umm, if you have any body but nextel, go to messages>compose SMS> and pick your contact. SMS=text. If you have nextel, send an email to xxxxxxxxxx@teleflip.com, they will receive the email as a text message, and then you should receive their response as an email, this is a great way to avoid using texts

thats great until the teleflip website goes away... i cant rely on a free service providrd by a website that will eventually vanish... or a server that i have no control over. there are also privacy/security issues with this...

No. Go to Messages, press the scroll wheel and select Compose SMS. Select the person from your address book or enter the phone number.

This all assumes that your not connected to a BES server that pushs an IT Policy that restricts SMS/MMS usage. If this is the case, <phone number>@something.com is your only option.

A Nextel BlackBerry does not use SMS, but rather MMS (same thing, more capabilities). At the same time, Nextel charges extra to be able to use MMS. You need to call Nextel have have the plan added to your account.

Yes. If you only send text in your MMS message the person you send it to will basically get a SMS (text) message.

great, thank you. but theres another problem. so i used the nextel 7100 just now and sent an mms to my cingular phone. the message got there just fine but if i simply hit "reply" the reply message is sent to the 11 digit number of my BB... (1)(area code)(number)

the "1" causes it to never be delivered to the BB.

this doesnt happen with any other provider... any reason why this might happen?

*************

correction... it just arrived, 10 minutes later. this will always be the problem with nextel... they concentrate so much on the 2-way that all of the other network services are terrible compared to other providers.

Not exactly. Nextel takes SMS messages sent to your BlackBerry and send them to your handheld as an email (if I am not mistaken). If you signup for thier SMS 300 plan your SMS messages will show up a whole lot faster.

Why does Nextel calls it SMS 300 when they dont support SMS (only MMS)? I can only guess it is a carryover from Sprint.
