Default How to set up Hotmail and Yahoo mail accounts

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, recent newbie to the Blackberry 8700c and I am having trouble setting up my personal e-mail accounts. I have tried a few Hotmail account, but get the message that I need to sign up to a year subscription for $20.00. Is there a work around for this at all? I have multiple hotmail accounts.

Also Yahoo doesn't seem to work either when I try to enter those accounts. I keep getting the message that the account information isn't valid, check with the e-mail provider.

Can I set up hotmail and yahoo e-mail accounts on the BB or not? If so how do I do it?

Thanks for the help.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7290/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

You're going to have to pay for pop3 access in order to recive mail from hotmail and yahoo accounts, unless you check them with the blackberry browser which I think would be a pain in the ass

Gmail offers free pop3 access, maybe you should consider a switch?

See my tips site on gmail/yahoo integration and read some more threads here. Look in the Blackberry Network forum and you will find info on both. Hotmail has been tough but this new Microsoft Live something has some hope. Yahoo should not be a problem on some carriers for the free account. It is not available on Cingular though.

I switched to Gmail because it would allow email forwarding for free. For my free Yahoo, I still could never get it to forward for free without paying Yahoo.

Stinsonddog, you mention you can with Cingular? How? I'm with Cingular.

Edited the post, you can't do the Yahoo push on Cingular.

How is that? I have been with hotmail for years and could never get the BB and Hotmail accounts to work with one another. Some instructions or guidelines would be helpful. I am with TMO, if you are with them also its good news for us.

Thanks

My issue here is that I depend heavily on the Yahoo Mail spam fiter - I'd say I get 300 messages a day, of which only 20-25 are not spam. If I pop these messages from Yahoo to my BB, I'll get all 300, correct?

You can try Getmail which is a free download and can forward Hotmail emails to any email address. You do have to have it running on a pc though.

Hotmail does not work, whether paid or free. Try configuring it - you'll see.

Gmail's spam filters are great, I get almost no spam and I used to get alot. I go in to the Gmail site and look at the spam folder and it is huge. You train it for a while by marking what is Spam and soon you get very little. When it does come thru you go in and "mark as spam" and you do not get that anymore.

Gmail setup also allows for instant e-mail. Look into it by going to Stinsondog's site (mentioned above^^).

My Yahoo accounts are still alive and well, they just go thru Gmail first.

Good Luck

Hotmail works just fine for me. I set it up through BIS 1.8 when I first got my blackberry a few weeks ago. I migrated over to BIS 2.0 & it continues to work fine. No push, but polling is ok with me. I have a gmail account that I use only for close friends and family that is forwarded to BB.
