Default 7130c: help out a bb newbie

Please Login to Remove!

My old phone died yesterday, and when I was at the cingular store, I ended up buying a bb 7130c without really knowing anything about it.

I'm having some problems with customizing it... First off, I want to get new pics onto it. I've gone to those websites that host a pic for you, and then send you an email to the pic so you can download it. That works fine, but when I get the pic, there's no option to save it. The only thing I can do is to send it as a SMS to myself, and then save that. That seems a little cludgy... is that how it's supposed to work?

Also, I'd like to be able to set certain pics to show up when certain people call me. I thought all phones have this capability. But I don't see any option like that when I edit a contact. Don't see anything for setting a custom ringtone for a contact, either (though the manual suggests there should be one). Am I just missing something? Or are all these basic functions locked out by Cingular on purpose?

Welcome to BBForums!

You can mail yourself pictures and then save them to the Pictures application. That's the easiest way to handle pictures.

To add a custom ringtone to a contact, go into the Address Book, find and edit the contact; click the wheel and select "Add Custom Phone Tune".

Welcome and good luck with your BB!

Thanks, I'm making a little progress here... but I still don't see an option to show specific pics when certain people call. Is that not an option in bb land?

There are no 3rd party add ons that will do that? If so, that's pretty weak :(

The BlackBerry is not a multimedia device; its primary strength is secure, stable wireless e-mail.

BlackBerrys don't have many of the features that are standard to multimedia phones. But they don't e-mail as well as a BB does.

If I want to email myself photos to keep on my bb, what is a good resolution and what dimensions (in pixels) would you suggest? And what format, jpg?

Thanks!

Check out the Ringtones, Themes and Wallpapers forum; tons of information about pictures, etc. I'm the wrong guy for that information

I concur, Blackberries are a one trick pony, although it is a very very very good one trick pony ;)

I do miss all the multimedia features from my Treo 650 but the push email on the BB make up for it.
