In my normal profile, I set the following tones up:

Level 1 Messages = notifier_magic
Messages = notifier_ready
Phone = ringer_roomservice
SMS = notifier_sonar

[1] When I receive emails, I hear the "messages" tone
[2] When I receive text messages, I hear the "sms" tone
[3] When I receive a voicemail, I hear the "sms" tone too

How do I make separate tones for [2] and [3]?

Are "level 1 messages" for urgent-flagged email messages?

Depending on your carrier, they may send your voicemail notification as a SMS (!) in which case, no.

TMO used to send out SMS messages for thier voicemail notifications. They have since stopped doing so, but the notifications do seem internally to be SMS messages. I get the same thing you are experiencing, I just assumed because they used to send those out as sms. So I think you may be SOL.

Voice mail niotification and SMS use the same transport mechanism, the Voice Control Channel. Therefore the BB can't really differentiate between them.

Can't write code somehow to elevate one form of notification over the other? Are "level 1" messages only PIN messages? I have yet to hear that ring.

I believe that Pin to Pin messages default to Level 1. Under BIS 1.8 you can set filters to be Level 1 also. I don't know if this is maintained under BIS 2.0 or not.

I am using BES for my filters and I set everything not related to my work email as level 1. I do this purposely so I can get a different tone for my personal emails versus my work emails. This way I know how readily I may have to look at my BB when an email comes in. Very useful!

just being picky in differentiating between the voicemail signal and sms note, but oh well, not doing too many advanced tricks here otherwise, ie: themes and videos... would rather paint up my own theme but am on a mac, would probably have to do some research.
