Question 8700c dun modem w/cingular works on and off

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, fellow blackberry users!

I'm using an 8700c with Cingular service and the unlimited international data plan. I routinely tether my bb to my thinkpad t60 and use it successfully for internet access on gprs and edge using the tutorials outlined in other posts on this site. The only change was that during initial tests, I was unable to get it to work using:

+cgdcont=+1,"IP","WAP.CINGULAR"

... as the extra init string instead of the recommended one, which is:

+cgdcont=+1,"IP","isp.cingular"

I also had to call Cingular to get the extra packages added onto my account.

Anyway, the problem is that my connection will work one day and not the next. I'm in south africa at the moment and have been tethering my modem for a week now. Today, I started getting Error 732 (machines unable to agree on PPP) every time I attempt the dialup. No settings have changed.

I get this error at home in San Francisco sometimes, as well.

Anyone experiencing similar problems? Anyone know of a fix?

thanks in advance...

Eric

Mine is working absolutely fine. I was previously told that I needed the provisioning or something along those lines from the Cingular Blackberry tech support and that it would cost me $79.99. I tried it out anyway following Stinsondogs tips in his sig and it worked fine. I just hope my bill isn't outrageous now.

ECheng:

Do you have any updates? I have had no problems until now and am getting the same error.

Hi Echeng

Ever since I use the init string "WAP.CINGULAR" it works great.
I found it in your post.

I only once had a problem to connect.
But I tried it once again and it worked...

I say thanks
