Default 7130e just arrived -- keep it?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all!

Just waiting for Sprint activation to pick up the phone. My new 7130e arrived at 4:30, but the front desk didn't tell me. Bah! So I'm back at work & it's charging up as I install the desktop software while I'm on hold.

Odd coincidence: my brother in law just came to stay with us and has a new BB: the 8700g.

The 8700 seems very nice -- much more solid than the 7130e.

I'm thinking I maybe should hold out and wait for the 870x for Sprint. Any opinions??

I think it may be a little bit for Sprint to get the 8700...Sprint always seems to be slow in getting the nice blackberry's. You could always just use the 7130e for a while then sell it and upgrade if you want a blackberry now. I think I heard through the grapevine it could be november or later before Sprint gets them.

I'm really enjoying the 7130e. I've had it a week now and no complaints!

I think Liv had a good idea...just keep the 7130e for now, and if and when the time comes to upgrade, go for it and sell the 7130e.

totally off-topic...I sure miss San Antonio.

I'm returning my 7130 due to the fact that it feels like a toy when compared to my 7250. I have EVDO on my 7250 anyway. I may wait for the 870? To drop. I would probably miss San Antonio too.

That's an interesting take. I went with the 7130e because I though the 7250 was too toy-like. I have had mine for over a week now, and can't believe that I ever got on without it. Amazing just from the connectivity point of view - although I must admit that the phone doesn't get as good reception as my Nokia did, nor is the sound quality quite as good. Still an excellent package all in all.

The build quality of the 7130 is what specifically did not impress me. The edges of the housing don't line up perfectly and if you hold it somewhat firmly in your hand the thing creaks. The screen and form factor are nice though.

I have noticed the creaking too. I guess I don't really care as I have been very good (up to now) about not dropping my phones. I also have the hardest time getting the battery door off sometimes...I feel like I will break the phone trying to do so. Other times it comes off with ease.

I've got the 7130e up and running. 3b fact I'm typing on it now!

I like the screen, but it is smaller than the 8700. SureType works better than expected.

It's a bit slower than I expected, given Ev-DO. It feels a bit cheap compared to the 8700 and Treo. The whole keyboard wiggles!

Also, it's harder than it ahold be to tell if it's in silent or vibrate mode. I can't believe it doesn't have a silent switch--a physical switch I can feel without looking to know I won't be held in contempt while in court!

I'll at least keep it for the 14-day trail period.

I'd be interested to hear any other thoughts!

I noticed that about the keyboard too. At first it was a real turn-off, but then I just decided that if it works, I guess I don't mind.

The vibrate is weak compared to the 7250, but Sure-type is better than I expected.

The phone function is getting annoying. I can have 2-3 bars of EVDO, no call indication, but suddenly a voice mail notifier appears, or I can be on a call wth a great signal, the call drops and it's like the signal burps and dips only for a moment.

This can happen with any CDMA device.

That is exactly the reason I returned it and am waiting for an 8700 from Sprint. I dropped it once and held my breath. It was definitely creaky and a little too plastic for me. The form factor is also just a little blah for me - at least some of the other 7100 series phones are a little more unique looking. The 7250 does feel like a toy, but at least it is more solid. Hopefully the September rumors hold up for the 8703 for Sprint.

I really like the 7130c and am glad they abandoned the design from the 7130e. it is too boxy and feels like i can crush it in my grip

There is mild creaking with the 7130c but the vibrate is quite good and I actually have dropped it (to my horror)...it didn't burst apart thank god.

so it may feel a bit flimsy but the bugger stays together on a random fall

at least for me it did

None of my other CDMA phones would miss a call totally and then a voice mail message appear, even when I had a signal. It happens repeatedly with his phone.

They are both nice & each has their drawbacks and benefits. The 8700 is going to provide you with s full qwerty, 7130e (which I use now) uses suretype... I miss my 7250 for that alone! That is going to be your biggest noticable difference IMO. They both play MP3 ringtones and have speakerphone, BT

I have the ppc-6700 and i do not like it... I wanna wait for the 870x but i dunno from a $$$ standpoint and buy the 7130e and then in september get the full qwerty bb the arrival on sprint is a rumor only ...if carriers only knew that A rumor of a device coming to a carrier is what maybe keeps a customer w/ that company or an alternative view would be that always being late to the party with new devices will allow a customer an opportunity to leave.

Went back to a Verizon 7250,I had bought the 7130e back in may. Not bad, suretype worked much better than I expected.
Love the send and end buttons, speaker phone nice, screen was hard for me to see in direct sunlight though.
My problem is that I am use to a 7250 style blackberry. I had a nextel 7520 for over a year. Loved it, I had to go back. (vzn 7250 & nxtl 7520 are almost the same unit except for carrier specific stuff like walkie-talkie).
I lost the direct connect when I left nxtl but I gained EVDO when I went to vzn.If only I could get both on the same device.
7130 & 7250 are two different styles of blackberry, each has it's own strenghts and weaknesses, it just depends on what you want out of the unit and like in my case, what you are accustomed to.
btw; I always carry a 2nd phone for my primary voice usage (small flip phone- moto e815), so I don't need good voice from my blackberry, I just want a good data device. That puts me in a different category then most blackberry users.

I exchanged my 7130e for a new one and to me, it seems more solid than the other one I had. The keyboard doesnt wiggle at all...well maybe its just my imagination!

I love my 7130e and am enjoying it like the others who posted on here!

I programmed my center button for profiles. Now I can select the profile with the touch of one button.
