Ok, I have a 8700g, on T-Mobile. I want to be able to have ANY profile set, BUT, when certain people call a certain tone will be heard...

Now, before you jump, hear me out. I know how to do this, BUT, is it possible to have it that when my profile is set to VIBRATE, that exception rule does NOT take over?

Imagine being in a meeting, and you have it set to vibrate, and the wife calls, and then you hear, 'Welcome to Jamrock'! I don't think the other partners in the meeting would be too happy, do you? LOL

Well, never mind, Melissaox on another forum helped guide me...

Answer: I got it! I looked at the options again, I had to have the exception set to 'active profile'. I did not have that! Thanks for that...

ok, so can someone tell a newbie how I can assign one ring tone for friends and family and another for work?

You can set execptions in your profile list. However, you should probably have one of the most current OS's

As The Gecko said, you need at least OS 4.1.x.xxx to do this. If you have this, go to profiles, and from the menu select New Exception. Name it and start adding Contacts. Then add the ringtone you want.

If you want the ringtone to play any time you get a call from the contacts in this list set the Use Profile to Normal. If you want it not play when you have the profile set to have calls not play ringtones. set Use Profile to Active.

Let's try this the other way, though..

When I'm at work, I don't want to be alerted that I have a new mail in my work Inbox (OWA through BIS)..since I'm sitting at my laptop. I'd like the 'No Work Email' profile to NOT alert me when an email comes from my 'OWA' maibox.

Is there anyway to do this without adding every single contact from work onto my BB and then manually adding them as an exception to the 'No Work Email' profile? I'm was thinking a BIS filter...but that would affect ALL of my profiles, right? (which isn't what I want)

Alrighty...here's an idea...

Since I have NO forms of email setup as Level 1 messages, what about if I setup the messages from my OWA mailbox to be L1. I can then set an L1 exception in my 'No Work Email' profile, to be silent.

Again...any thoughts?

"Exceptions are for calls/ringtones, not messages"...I do agree in the meantime because my 8700v ignores all settings I make here, as far as message alerts are concerned. - However, the dialogs to me definitely look as if it should be possible. Profile Exception for special sender, the Exception configured to a special Profile, that Profile configured for a certain behaviour when a message arrives. - Why does it not work Did anybody get it to work in the meantime?

However, I am okay now with setting this sender up for Level 1 messages, as you suggested - and configure them to be silent works fine. - The fact that I managed to find out where to configure this filter is only due to another post in this forum. It is well hidden.

It works exactly as you say on my 8700g. I have different email, SMS and PIN rings on a per-contact bases, not just phone rings. What you do, as you suggest, is create a new profile that has all the notifications as you want them for that contact. Then create a new exception for that contact, and set that exception to use the new profile instead of the active profile, and uncheck custom phone tune (since you can just set it in the profile). Now any message that comes in from that contact should conform to their individual profile. If you ever want to temporarily disable that behavior (for a meeting or movie or something) you just uncheck the important calls checkbox in the main profile window.

At least, that is how it all functions on the 8700g.

There is an other problem with my 8700. I created a new profile with a special ring for sms. Then I created a exception for a special contact which should use the new profile.

It works fine so far, but also unknown senders use this special profile.

Any idea ?

Think I've got a solution.

My way to solve the problem was to delete the specific contact and create a new one. After Choosing the new contact instead of the old one it works fine.

I have two 'exceptions' setup to play polyphonic ring tunes. An interesting thing happened a few weeks ago - the two exceptions suddenly switched ring tunes. The settings appeared correct - the right ring tune was selected except that is NOT the one that was playing (for either of them). No matter what I set as the exception, it was stuck playing this other tune. I had to delete the offending ring tune in order to get it to stop playing (even though it was no longer selected for either of these contacts). Since I've updated my 8700 to .466 I haven't had this problem return. I just mention this to point out that weird stuff happens and it doesn't always make much sense.
