my cingular 8700 will not boot.
i can't connect it to the computer to use the javaloader to wipe it.
when connected to the computer it just connects then disconnects constantly.
it doesn't seem you can hard reset the phone without a computer.
the only way i can get it to display anything is to pull the battery and plug it into the home charger , when i do that the screen lights up and shows the battery with the red line through it and nothing else, but at least the red light isn't blinking.

when the battery is in, the red light just blinks and the bb occasionally goes to the hourglass. the battery is fully charged because i charged it with my sprint bb.

i'm leaning tward accepting that it is a brick and just replacing it.

What sprint model BB did you put your 8700 battery in? Did you do that before or after you noticed this problem? You might need to buy a new battery in. The 8700 battery can be used in some 7100 series units but I think those are the only ones. These are smart batteries that have protection to prevent problems from causing more serious problems (read severe overheating).
