7100 vs 7290

Hi - I am new to BB.. and I am considering buying 7100t , however, Tmobile website also shows 7290 as being available soon..

going through the their website and reading some info on both models, I could not find any major differences- are there any?

is speed of browsing approx. the same on both devices?
how about screen quality?

tks

If you want an excellent phone that does email then the 7100 series is an excellent choice. If you receive allot of email and need a device that has excellent email capabilities and a phone then consider the 7290.

7290 is like the "ClassicBerry".

The biggest difference I have seen is IM & Bluetooth.

7730 is nbow the same price as the 7290, IMO worth getting. (y)

But it is all a matter of personal prefrence. Good luck

The 7100 is designed as a cell phone first, with the bonus of being a blackberry. The 7290 is a blackberry first, with a bonus of being a cell phone.

The features of the 2 are nearly identical except the 7100 has more RAM if I am not mistaken.

Both have Bluetooth, so I'm not sure what blkberryboy means.

The 7100 has speakerphone (7290 does not) and better ringtone playback The 7290 is limited to single track MIDI pretty much.

The 7100 also has a slightly better screen. Even though the Houston Real Time Traffic Map would render at a smaller size on the 7100 than the 7290, it was definitely sharper on the 7100.

I don't think the 7100 has the two-level backlighting that the 7290 does, but I'm not sure on this one.

I ended up choosing the 7290 as I really didn't like the SureType keyboard on the 7100 (I SMS, PIN, and email a lot). I don't recall the 7100 really being a better phone reception and performance-wise.

IMO, the 7100 is not a great phone reception wise. Not saying that it's bad --- just not stellar, which can matter for folks who work/live in low signal areas...

I meant the 7230 for T-Mobile, i agree the 7250 & 7290 have Bluetooth  ]

ok... so is the reception better on 7290?

.. the reseption is the key for me becasue I do not mind if I type one word less or more in any given time.. but if I can't hear the other party ...well now this could be a problem

I think the key difference is the keyboard. I would go for the 7290 over the 7100's any day of the week and twice on Sundays. I IM/email/SMS/data alot, and never use the phone.

So which one you want comes down to what you want the most out of it - a phone or a data device.

I have to comment a bit on the 7100's keyboard.

Go into any store you can find that has a demo 7100 and spend about 15 minutes playing with suretype. By this, I mean try to compose an e-mail that you would in day-to-day use.

If after that time, you feel it to be natural, the 7100 is for you. If you still find it annoying go for a full qwerty keyboard model.

I love suretype on my 7100 and am very fast at it, but others can't get the hang of it

thanks for all the comments.. how about reception? are those 2 (7100 and 7290) on the same par?

SchmutzBerry 03-06-2005 11:17 PM

I have a 7290, my partner has a 7100. And I would agree with most of the comments above.
I think the 7100 is a better more natural phone. Polyphonic ringtones, numeric keypad. 7100 on Rogers works very well as a phone reception wise as does the 7290. No difference in quality, or in bluetooth compability. Maybe easier to use the 7100 as a phone if you're not using a headset.
The innards are the same memory wise. The 7290 is slightly faster, and less hourglasses show up.
The screen on the 7100 is absolutely stunning! indoors. Useless outdoors.
Screen on the 7290 very good indoors, very good outdoors.
Keyboard, test it out, and see if suretype is for you. May need more than 15 minutes though.
Battery life, haven't done formal testing, but I think 7290 better.
