Just purchased the 8700c and love it. I had an issue during Enterprise Activation that caused me to need to re-activate it. A couple days later, I noticed today that I had many duplicate messages, so I wanted to wipe the device and re-activate it.

When I went to wipe the device, it never finished erasing - stuck there for 20 min. Took out the battery and replaced it, and now the device will not start up, the hourglass / grey screen appears and just keeps animating. Also, my LED indicator flashes red quickly after a few seconds of startup.

Am I screwed? Do I need to take this in to the store? Is there any way to do some sort of hard reset?

I ended up taking it to the store today and they gave me a new one. Is this thing really that delicate? Hope not!

It's like any other computer. They're pretty fragile, but compared to other OS's, it's pretty rock solid.

Next time, a Java Loader clean wipe and re-install of the OS would've probably fixed your problem.

Also running through Application Loader without the battery and then with the battery would have fixed it as well.
