Default Total Blackberry NOOB!

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, before you start answering this post with "Do a search for that" or "That's what the search button is for", please understand I am so new to Blackberry's that I don't even know what to search for!

The reason I got a 8700 is I do work for some companies that send jobs out via email. I need to receive these as quickly as possible in order to secure the job before someone else grabs it. I use a SBCglobal.net email account and have my desktop Outlook set to check it every minute. Is it possible to set the blackberry to do the same thing when I'm out?

All help is greatly appreciated and Thank you in advance.

Assuming that your SBC email is POP3 or IMAP you need to configure your handheld to fetch it. You should have an icon on your BlackBerry labeled 'Setup Internet Email'. If you havent created a BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) account yet, you will be prompted to do so. Then its just a matter of entering your SBC email address and password. BTW, what BlackBerry service provider are you using?

I'm with Cingular.

Does the setup give the option for time interval between checks?

The SBC email is really a Yahoo email account and I believe it is a POP3 acct.

Nope, no time interval. But that is because once everything is setup, all your email will be arriving almost instantly. If your SBC email is really Yahoo just use the Yahoo address.

If you're using a BIS, see if you can get your work email address to forward mail to your BIS email account. That one arrives almost instantly on your Blackberry. All others will work on a 15 minute poll, so that might lose you valuable time.

Cingular is on BIS 2.1. There is no 15 minute delay anymore.

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 7130c: BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

There's no delay for gmail. All other pop accounts are still polled every 15 minutes.

The honorable d_fisher probably meant that there was no delay for a SBC/Yahoo account anymore.

[We'll just quietly ignore that this was true on BIS 2.0, as well ]

It is Cingular, there is still 15 minutes delays for Yahoo. Even on BIS 2.1.

I had the same issue. RIM is working on a fix for this. Google and Yahoo will be fetching instantly, while other POP3 accounts will keep the 15 minute polling time.
