Default 7130c using phone functions only

Have a 7130c. Will be going to Europe and plan to use phone only (no data) local SIM cards. Is there a way to use phone only and turn off data so I don't get killed with data surcharges while the BB tries to access email and so on??? I know there is a turn radio on/off icon, but I assume this also disables the phone.

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 7130c: BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

If the local sim doesn't have blackberry data plan associated to it, there will be no data usage.

Sounds good, but is there a difference between data usage and "Blackberry" data usage? I know that some of the SIM cards I have do support data.
