| 8700c drops calls when new email messages arrive Please Login to Remove! i bought my first 8700c in december 2005 and like it very much. one problem: while talking on the cell phone part (with cingular wireless providing cell service), i get disconnected with a painfully loud do Do DO sound that seems to coincide with arrival of a new email message. this has happened in excellent signal strength areas and i have seen it happen enough times to feel reasonably confident that do Do DO call drops coincide with arrival of a new email message (usually forwarded from my firm's BES) while talking on the 8700c's phone. (by contrast, if no email message arrives, i can complete the phone call without interruption.) yesterday i finally called cingular, and after listening to the problem they kindly agreed to ship me a replacement handheld. the person i spoke with expressed "reasonable" confidence the replacement handheld might have some newer software. my question is: has anyone else experienced such a problem and determined how to fix it? thanks in adance for any thoughts or suggestions. if this question has been answered before, i apologize; i am new to the site and my searches today yielded no relevant threads... thx, bt | Offline

What happens when you get email that's not from the BES? EDGE and voice can not occur simultaniously. My only thought is that it could have to do with IT policy if it's not the handset. | Offline

| maybe you're on to something. doing some testing today myself (with my sending messages to my work account, which forwards from work BES to my handheld, and then also to [myprefix]@mycingular.blackberry.net) i could not get the call disconnect problem to repeat. it seemed like something caused the email messages to delay coming down into my handheld until after the call was over. i hate that i may be wasting some of cingular's money (and my time setting up new handheld) getting me a replacement handheld. wish i were smart enough to diagnose this reliably. thx for thoughts | Offline

| if you're on a voice call I dont think you can send/receive/lookup/access web as the phone is using your connection with the cellular network.

| thx. i guess it is possible i have not correctly associated incoming email messaes with the do Do DO dropped phone calls. i'll try out the replacement unit from cingular wireless next week and see if problem is resolved. | Offline

| That's weird. It's obviously known that the 8700 can't do voice and data at the same time. I've never had a call disconnect for data, it's quite the opposite. As soon as I hang up on a conversation, I have a list of emails pour in. It's must be a BES policy you have set up, intentional or not.

| From time to time I've noticed the same thing, voice calls dropping because I received a message. It doesn't happen everytime but I know this has happened to me.

I just tried to send my self a few emails while on the phone. Nothing happened until I ended the call, then all three showed up at once. One to each of the three email address's I have linked to the berry. | Offline

| i havent heard of this issue but it may possibly be the sim, if it isnt the new 3g sim that may be the cause of it, either that or an internel issue that may need to be flashed of a hard reset | Offline

| i just got my "warranty" replacement 8700c yesterday and i'm afraid i wasted cingular's money on it. the replacement handheld's software version (4.something) was same as the old handheld's. assuming a software fix comes out in next couple of weeks, i wonder what i'll need to do to get it. (as i'm sure everyone has figured out, i'm not very tech-savvy.) thx | Offline

We have a user who just raised this same issue with us and we're curious if a warranty replacement would fix this problem for her as well.

| i just now had my wife call me at my blackberry cell number. i answered the call on "warranty" replacement handheld. we left the line open several minutes and i sent myself several email messages. the call was not dropped, and none of the email messages forwarded to handheld until a minute or so after i (voluntarily!) disconnected the call. while i cannot know yet for sure whether the warranty replacement (actually i received tuesday, not yesterday) has resolved my dropped calls issue, so far so good. if dropped calls re-occur later, i'll post again. regards, bt | Offline

| I have reported the same problem to Cingular and posted it here (see link below):
The title is 3 loud Tones/Beeps on Disconnect. I made the post in Aug 23 2006 under the same general thread, i.e., General 8700 Series Discussion. Others have also replied to my post, but nothing conclusive.
I am on my third Blackberry 8700C, in 6 months, because of this problem. I have had this one for 2 days. | Offline

| This may sound simple but is the SIM card a 64 k card? I had problems with dropped calls when email was sent also. I used the old sim card from a 7290 ( 32 k ) and had not given it a thought until i had problems. Cingular sent a 64 k card that i thought was unneeded.

| I think the 64k they refer to is internal. The SIM card should be marked. The SIM slides out once the stop is pushed down. Almost a two hand job to get it out.
IT's the SIM that needs to be 64k

| tsac, using your suggestion, i succeeded in getting the SIM card to slide out (thanks). it does say 64k smartchip. i am now remembering it was an early upgrade cingular sent to me, with documentation indicating it might make overseas cell phone service better somehow. i don't travel on business overseas but i went ahead and had our tech guys put in the replacement SIM card for me. the doDoDO dropped call problem reoccurred after that. i don't think it reoccurred after cingular replaced my handheld a couple of weeks ago | Offline
