You can't. The 7100 series (including the 7130s) do not have that feature.

I am not sure if this is what you are asking. If you hold down the Green phone button on a 7100G it takes you to the address book to dial a number. Is that what you wanted? Does it work on a 7130g?

Dial from the home screen as in you're on the home screen and want to dial a number?

If so, the 7130e's do that.

He wants to turn THAT off and use shortcuts like with the full QWERTY keyboard, but its not happening.

I've got the 7105t and I can use my speed dial from the home screen. I push and hold 1 and the phone dials voicemail. 2 calls home, 3 calls the wife's cell, etc. Is that what you're after?

This is not about speed dials
This is not about using the green key to dial from address book

This is how you can turn off Dial From Home Screen to use shortcuts from the Home Screen on a 7130. An example of a shortcut is you hit the M key to open the Messages folder or B to open the BlackBerry Browser.

You can not turn off Dial From Home Screen on a 7130. Again.

I actually was able to get to the address book by hitting A and to the calendar by hitting L. This was after a software upgrade from a non Verizon user (can not remember provider :(). The letters were actually underlined in the area that shows what is highlighted on the home screen. BUT, after ugrading my BB messanger this went away and I have not been able to replicate since. So it is possible for keys that are not assigned a number and only the first letter of that key. BB just has to allow us to do it.
