What's up w/ free 8700c on Amazon?
I understand you have to activate and keep your Cingular service for "181 days", but I don't understand why the Cingular website sells the same phone w/ activation for $299.
What's the deal?

To take advantage of this offer, you cannot port your # over. This is for brand new activations only. Carriers always sell their phone for more than you can get it elsewhere. Seems crazy, but that's just how it is. Other companies have deals with cingular to sell their products (but also cell other carrier products) so to be competitive, they are given deals.
I bought my 8700C last week at simplywireless.com for $149 and was able to port my # over. Brand new unit and no rebate hassles.

Go figure. If you're already a Cingular customer then call the cancellation department. They'll probably give you a good deal on a new BB, but it probably won't be free.

What if you are not a subscriber with T-Mobile, can you port your # from Cingular?

to get the free 8700c from Amazon, you can't port a #. Period. Doesn't matter from who, what, where when or why. It's free for people who sign up for a new # and a 2 year contract
