Default Hi from newb BB user and question

Please Login to Remove!

Hello Everyone,

I just got a BB7100i for Nextel and I'm starting to set it up and learn how to use this new toy. I waited a long time before getting one of these because I wanted a Treo but they don't seem to have an interest in offering anything for Nextel anytime soon so i went with the BB, in any case I'm pretty happy with the BB so far.
I have a few questions that I haven't been able to figure out: I'm not using BES.
1- When I'm in the office I connect my BB to my desktop using the latest 4.1 software version but for some reason my messages do not get synchronized in the BB so I have to delete every message that I already looked at and deleted on my desktop all over again. Is there a way to keep the BB on but stop receiving emails on it? or have the messages get sync'd with my outlook? I can't seem to find the way?
2 - When I used the bis site for Nextel to set up my email accounts I tried to use the desktop email push ( email listener? ) agent from rim but somehow it wouldn't work right so I just ended up setting up the emails so that the BB goes direct to my email providers. This is good if my desktop is down but for the most part I would much rather have the push agent on my desktop send the emails to the BB this way I solve problem 1 above and also get the benefit of the emails going through my spam and virus checker on my desktop so that I stop having to delete all of the junk I get.
3 - how do I select multiple emails for deletion on the BB. I read where it says to use the ALT key but I can't seem to figure out which key to push along with the ALT key to delete the emails.
4 - With the reduced keyboard, I find that typing words in english works pretty well, but when I have to answer an email in a latin language ( spanish, portuguese, Italian) than the software doesn't recognize the words I'm using and it becomes a PITA to reply. Is there any way to have a second language as part of the default lookup for the dictionary the BB uses?

Thanks for the replies and sorry about so many questions but I'm trying to get the most out of this toy.

As far as #3 is concerned, with the scroll wheel, choose the first message of those you want to delete; hold down the right-most of three black-bottomed keys on bottom of keypad (next to Enter key). While holding this key, roll the scroll wheel to the final message you want to delete. Press the scroll wheel and choose "Delete Messages." Et voila!

#1 If you are on the company BES, you shouldn't have to delete messages twice. If you have the BIS account set up to pull email from your office email address, there's no way to "synchronize" delete through BIS.

#1b If you are using the company BES, you can use redirector settings to disable forwarding when in cradle. This tells the BES to not forward email when your BB is connected to the cable. (sorry, forgot this and had to edit my post to add it).

#2 The desktop redirector software only works if you have a Microsoft Exchange Server. It does not work with just Outlook. You need the server in the backend.

#3 To clarify what Julian said above, the key you are looking for is the shift key. to the right of the space bar. Hold that while scrolling.

#4 You've already found a solution

Guys, thanks for the help.
I figured out how to make the desktop redirector work even without running BES on my server and it is working great now. It redirects all emails from my inbox to the BB from all of my emails and since I have spam and virus checkers on the desktop I am getting almost no spam on the BB. Pretty sweet!
I'll try the multiple delete next time I have a bunch of emails on my BB.
