Default 8707v 3G Modem problem

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 8707v which works just fine on both 3G and GPRS.

I now want to use the 8707v as a modem.

I have downloaded the instructions on the modem config from the Blackberry site BlackBerry where the pdf resides.

The problem is that there is no Standard Modem in my list of modems (Control Panel¦Phone and Modem Options¦Modems). My built-in modem and 3G+ modem are both listed but no Standard Modem.

I checked in [User] HOWTO: Use BlackBerry As Modem For Laptop! but this does not seem to cover the 8707v as there is no Modem driver which installs under Common Files.

Anyone got any suggestions about how to install the Standard Modem?

Interestingly the registry does list three modems including a Standard Modem but this does not appear on the Modems list as above.

Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Good question.

I just deleted my Standard Modem to see how to add it back Misery loves company, I suppose.

Anyway, you can add it back under Control Panel -> Phone and Modem Options I think. I don't have my 8707v with me and I think it needs to plugged in and RIM Desktop Manager running to add it back. Not sure though, and even so I cannot test it without so I will have to wait.

I will try it later when I have my 8707v.

I now have my 8707v working as a modem.

The most critical thing that is not clear from the instructions, but is on the FAQ site, is that the Desktop Manager must be open.

Then everything connected just fine up to the point of authorisation on the network at which point it just hung and eventually timed out.

Solution was that Vodafone had not configured the APN correctly. They reconfigured and it all lept into life. It was very frustrating because it took them a long time to figure out that this was the problem. Maybe it is now on their internal FAQ !!

Hope this helps.
