Question 8707v compatible with T-Mobile?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello....I'm a new user, amd I just want to say how amazing this site is. It has helped me immensely with my transition into the world of BB. Kudos!!! Anyway, I live in the US (NYC), and I'm currently getting service from T-Mobile. I'm thinking of purchasing an unlocked BlackBerry 8707v, which is a model that RIM has released in the UK for Vodaphone. (I guess it's cool that it has 3-G, but I really like the look of it...and none of my friends have one ) So I've been doing some research on the 8707v and it's a quad band phone (850/900/1800/1900), and it uses GSMTM, and GPRS. The rep at T-mobile says that based on that info, it should be compatible with T-Mobile service, and all functions should run normally. So I'm hoping to get the device and just put my T-Mobile SIM in it. Does anybody have any advice for me before I make this purchase? Any cautions, warnings, experiences, etc. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much in advance.

I would imagine that if the device is for sure unlocked you won't have any problems.

It will be compatible if you get it unlocked, but you'll be at GPRS at best. No Edge data. Period.

becasue we dont have it, EDGE is 2.5g at best, we dont have anything faster than that, unless youre in NYC, you might have 3G, but then again, the 8707 doesnt run on the same 3g frquency, so give up. wait till we get our own 3g up, and RIM puts out a BB that works on our networks

Some sites say that it supports EDGE, and others sites don't mention it at all. (I can't include the link to the site, cuz I haven't posted 10 posts on this iste yet) What's the deal? Does it or doesn't it?

I believe Cingular has a 3G UMTS network in NY (but it runs on a different frequency to EU so the 8707v won't connect onto it).

The 8707v works fine on T-mobile in my experience (although only at 2G speeds).
