Default Auto Lock Keyboard After 30 Seconds?

Please Login to Remove!

I have been using the oem plastic holder that came with my 8700c in the box. I have been very happy with it, unitl recently.

Apparently, the fingers on both sides have worn down the edge on the blackberry so now the blackberry just falls out of the case. It fell out and got scratched in a few places. I am not about to pay $80 or more for another housing. The damage is minimal so I can live with it.

I am going to just put the blackberry in my pocket now. I have not seen any cases I like yet, so the pocket is the best option for me.

I do like the Krusell case, model number 87184 - Cabriolet with Multidapt®
. It is open on the top and I am worried it might fall out. I don't like the cases with the flap in front of them. Too bad Krussel didn't make a case like the 87184 - Cabriolet with Multidapt® with a strap on top to hold it in and plastic to cover the screen and keyboard. Then I would buy it in a heart beat.

This leads me to my problem. I haven't found a solution that can lock the keyboard automatically after a specified time. I prefer 30 seconds. I have the screen turn off after 30 seconds.

I have set the middle button to lock the keyboard, but there are times when I forget to lock it.

I can't use the lock on holster feature because I am no longer using the hoslter.

Any blackberry software writers out there? I would for you to write a program to auto lock the keyboard after 30 seconds of idle.

I too used the plastic holster that came with my 8700g and after only 2 months noticed the same wear and tear on both sides at the bottom of the phone. Much as I liked the holster, I couldn't have my BB getting beat up like that ;)

I bought the TM Napa Leather Case from the store for 20 bucks and I like it a lot. It is a vertical holder and it does have the flap, which I know you don't like, but it's real soft inside and cradles the device nicely. I suppose if you really hated the flap, you could cut it off. Then it would be open on the top. I think it would still be snug enough inside that it wouldn't tip out or anything.

But I've read on here (and I can't find the thread now) of another case that sort of resembled the OEM holster but was leather. You should try to search on here and see if something comes up. good luck

rim has redesigned the holster to solve this problem...please check the rim website to see the new holster....as for the case, i love the covertec pouch case for the 8700....the belt clip system is great, you can remove it completely and slip in in your pocket, or attach it to your belt...Covertec dot com - luxury leather cases and accessories for PDA, smartphones, GPS, GSM, iPod, multimedia...

You can set a simple password and set the time out for that to one minute.

You can also set one of the convenience keys to lock the keyboard if you want to be able to use the speed dial option from the home screen.

I have looked at the seidio spring clip holster. It looks too complicated and bulky. I think I might end up dropping it trying to take out.

I no longer want the hard swivel case, even if rim has a new one.

I ordered the Krusell 87184 Cabriolet Multidapt with spring clip today. I will see how I like the spring clip. I keep the blackberry clipped to the small change pocket in my jeans. I plan to leave it in the case all the time. If I don't like the spring clip, I will buy the swivel clip for it. This multidapt is really cool. I don't think it will fall out of this case.

The only thing I don't like about the Krusell 87184 Cabriolet Multidapt with spring clip is it has an open face and it faces outword when wearing it. I will buy some sort of screen protector to keep from getting more scratches than it already has from the initial drop. The scratches I have now are on the black upper portion of the screen near the ear piece. The case will cover those up. With a screen protector I think I will be ok. I just hope the keyboard doesn't scratched, seeing as it is exposed with this case.

I did enable the password feature so I do get an autolock after 1 min. I wish I could change that to 30 or 15 seconds. At least I have that an autolock feature.

If anyone is up to the challenge to write an autolock program to autolock the bb after 15 or 30 seconds without the password enabled, it would be greatly appreciated. It would be nice to have an option to change the delay time. 5, 10, 15 seconds and so on.

I just can't live with the scratches. Cingular was no help to me. The only option Cingular gave me was to buy a new phone at full retail price. For a 2 month old phone, this is not acceptable to me. I wouldn't be so hard nosed about getting this issue resolved if I was at fault here. I really feel the poor design of the holster is what caused it to fall out and get scratched, due to NO fault of my own.

I have been in contact with Rim via e-mail about this issue, Actually customer support at blackberry.net. I initially e-mailed , but customer support at blackberry.net e-mailed me back.

I tried to get them to just replace the housing and keypad but they refused and said they don't offer this to end customers. I even asked them to send me to an authorised repair center and I would pay for the parts. They said they do not have a local network of repair centers. Since Cingular woudn't help me, they finally caved and decided to replace it, but with a refurbished phone. So after many e-mails with rim customer support, they finally agreed to replace the phone. They will send me a refurbished phone.

At least it will be scratch free. I don't have any problems with refurbished phones. I have had good luck with them in the past. I have my new case coming. I will also order screen protectors. My new motto is never use the stock holster.
