I actually think the Vodafone version looks the best and I like the space between the keys. Kind of like that I really liked the 7100V over the cingular version (obviously 7130c has since come out).

The scroll ball takes getting used to - i think they could improve it by making it have more friction like the trackwheel has. You have to wonder though with some press about "Blackberry thumb" and that recently being named an official ailment (somewhere on Fool.com website), the company went with the easier to roll trackball to save thumbs everywhere.

Nonetheless, I still think the Pearl is a slick looking device and the 8800 will look slick and they'll both sell real well.

My guess is that much like the 8100, that is a port for the speaker as well as the grill on the back. On the pearl the memory is stored under the battery in a secure postion which is where I will bet they put the memory slot in this device as well. Keeps security high so the memory chip can not just be pulled out of the device easily... Explains why they put a USB mass storage emulation on the 8100 but it has to be enabled each time on the handset.

RIM normally has security first in mind.

Default Q2 Fiscal or Calendar

are you talking calendar year when you say Q2

QUOTE=muellerlinger]Hi Folks,

the first one is the 8800 called indigo. Santa Claus will bring it to Europe maybe in December.

BUT: The other two devices will come late in Q2 2007 and they are called crimson. One is T-Mobile, the other is vodafone.

Have fun with it! I've read the technical spez.. It'll be a cool device!
Together with BES 5.0 it'll be an fantastic combination. Forget Windows mobile, repligo, GPS-Pucks, Extra Navigation Software etc.. I think, 2007 becomes a fantastic BlackBerry-Year.

I wonder what that trackball belly-button is made of. With it being the highest point on the device - looks like it'll get tore up.

EXCLUSIVE: Updated: The LATEST BlackBerry 8800 release sked, features

Posted Dec 5th 2006 11:10AM by Russell Shaw
Filed under: T-Mobile, 8800, Patents

A very reliable insider source (who is not the guy whose initials are the same as the group who wrote some of those great songs on "Saturday Night Fever") has sent us verified information Regarding the T-Mobile 8800 BlackBerry:

Here's what we know:

There 2 versions of the 8800.

The first one will be launched without a camera approximately the middle-end of Jan 2007.

The second version will be launched with a camera approximately mid-end of April 2007.

Both will be Wi-Fi equipped.

When compared side by side to an 8700 model, it is approximately 2/3 the width depth of an 8700 and approx 1/4+/- inches longer.

The T-Mobile version will be black (as compared to the Pearl). This is verified for the 8800 without a camera...No final concrete design on the camera version as of yet, but 80% chance it will look exactly the same

there u have it, it will have a camera, just released later..damn, camera, video, mp3, wifi, full qwerty....anything left??

Exclamation another vote for track-wheel

I think the track-wheel is one of the things that makes a BlackBerry unique. You can use it with one hand. There's no stylus to get lost. It's behavior is very predictable and unique amongst PDA phones.

I think the trackwheel was / is a great idea, but I'm lovin' me my trackball.

RIM's biggest supporter and seller for their products in the US is T-Mobile... so I can't see them releasing any Blackberry's to anyone first other than T-Mobile.

Been away for a while and had to create a new nickname... I had a 7230 and then got away from it for a while.. I was gonna go get me a 8700 but now with the talk of the 8800 I am torn. any advice would be cool. I dont like being such an early adopter but the possiblity of wifi usage is tempting me to wait.

thoughts?

is it really set to be released in late Jan? I mean I CAN wait 1 1/2 months .. LOL .. I might not WANT to . heh..

I was looking at the pearl and the 8700 and was leaning to the 8700 since it is more like my 7230... but cooler. the pearl has more wizbang stuff in it for cool / consumer and the new 8800 seems to me like a melding of the two types...

am I making sense in my thoughts?

But, Cingular JUST released the Samsung BlackJack, which is a look alike to the 8800.

And, before anybody says anything, yes, T-mobile did release their somewhat version of the 8800, the "T-Mobile Dash".
The Dash looks less like the 8800 than the BlackJack does.

So IMO, there is NO WAY that Cingular is going to get the 8800 first.

What does looking alike have to do with anything? The Blackjack is NO Blackberry.

Ok, it must be just my random thinking, sorry.

I just want the 8800 to be here, and for T-Mobile! It would make alot of people happy!

I say in theory because it is really up to the carrier to allow the device on their network. I have heard that Sprint will only allow their own branded phones to operate on their network. I do not think Cingular and T-Mo are of that same opionion, however.

Geez - read the first post.

"If it's Vodafone and it's GSM. Could people from the States buy it from Europe, unlock it, pop in the SIM card and install the software to make it work?".

The question was about a GSM based RIM.

Boy Genius is correct. If you can get it unlocked it will work on any GSM carrier.
