Default typing a name

Newbi question !

Using my BB as a phone, when I call after hours, there is usually no recpetionnist to transfer me to the person I would like to talk to.
I'm offered by the voice system to type in the last name of the person I'm trying to reach in order to transfer me to the proper extension...
Now that doesn't work with the BB keypad. Anyway to this ?

You will need to use the letters as they are shown here:

http://infohost.nmt.edu/~armiller/gifs/phonekeypad.gif

the vmail system you are communicating with only knows those numbers, ignore the others on the BB.

You could just print it and stick it in your battery compartment so you have it when needed.

Well. I think we all knew we could do that, but I think we were looking for something other then this.

But at least you gave a reply. Thanks!

You can use the ALT key and type in letters. For example if you want to type "peter" you do:
hold Alt and press "O P" twice
press Alt and "E R"
press Alt and "T Y"
press Alt and "E R"
hold Alt and press "E R" twice

When you dial with letters on the 7100, the phone will translate them to the numbers associated with letters on a regular phone pad. It also works when you are dialing a number like 800 FLOWERS.

Just remember when dialing a name on a message system to start "abc" on 2. Three letters for each number except 7 and 9 which have four. First time this happened to me I was baffled!
