Default Sprint 8703e guys - what about the speed??

Please Login to Remove!

I'm interested to know how the browsing speed is for the Sprint folks who have just activated. Any that have used EDGE before, is it comparable? I think I heard that EVDO would be faster, but the 8703e processor slowed it to about the same speed. Is that the case??

I just got the 8703e today...already have an 8700g...with 3+ bars on a 1XEV signal browsing speed seems exactly the same to me...the difference I am noticing is that the 8700g seems to start loading the page more quickly (i.e. stuff starts to show up on the screen) but it takes a tad longer to load all the way in. On the 8703 the screen stays black for a few seconds then just pops on screen. I haven't timed it certainly but in just general browsing it seems so close I can't tell a difference.

no way!

My 8703e is pulling consistent 730kbps when tethered to my Thinkpad. I am using speakeasy's speed test, and the downs are 680-790kbps upload around 70kbps.

My 8700c would get 118kbps (average) down with 58kbps up.

Good luck with everything....

sorry, if you are talking browser performance on the device, you will see a difference when doing a download moreso than just surfing pages. Tethering, it is in a league of its own.

That is entirely possible if the proc on the 8703e is a bottleneck. I haven't tried tethering yet...will try it in a little bit and post my results. My comments were just regarding browsing on the device itself...I am hoping you are right though since I use it for tethering pretty frequently while traveling. Now if only we could get a BT profile for it

You'll love the tethering performance. I am quite pleased, its pretty close to what I see with an EVDO card. Finally one device for phone, email and data tethering (at least until Cingular 3G Blackberry shows its face)

Slightly OT: are you able to receive an incoming call while the 8703e is active in tethered mode?

Thanks,
Peter

I agree...for browser performance it is about the same...for downloads EVDO is much better.
