As I anticipate bit_bucket's availability tonight as he offered to assist, I figure I post some details as to my problem.
1. Per bit_bucket, I checked with Sprint Tier 2 Technical Support and was told that PAM (Phone As Modem) was enabled on my account
2. BlackBerry Desktop Manager v184.108.40.206[Feb 24 2006]
3. Sprint PCS Connection Manager v3.01.029
4. Two RIM Virtual Serial Ports (COM4 and COM5) were created
Sprint's BB 8703e User Guide says to use BB DM v4.1 or later but they only offer v4.0 on their website. I have tried the download link on the BlackBerry website specifically for Sprint and their general download section for BB DM v4.1. The version specifically for Sprint creates two RIM Virtual Serial Port v2 whereas the general BB DM v4.1 creates two RIM Virtual Serial Port (what's the difference between v1 and v2?).
From what I have been reading on the Internet, when you install the BB DM, it's supposed to create the two RIM Virtual Serial Ports AND a new modem device through Device Manager (running Windows XP Pro SP2a).
When I checked the Microsoft Update website, there was an update to the RIM BlackBerry device drivers which I downloaded with no effect. When you uninstall the BB DM software, it seems to remove the latest drivers that you download from the Microsoft Update website as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've been banging my head against the wall for two days now with no success. I ported over from Verizon since Sprint has had EVDO in Hawaii since late last year and only now Verizon is slowly turning up the towers. Sprint's plans were also a lot cheaper and I am now saving about $10.00 even with my new Telenav service which I just added. I also get unlimited text messages and free nights/weekends from 7PM-7AM versus Verizon's 9PM-6AM. I only wished the Sprint PCS Connection Software worked as well as the Verizon VZAccess software did.
