Default 7100i slow to respond to first keypress...

Please Login to Remove!

This drives me absolutely insane.

Whenever I dial a number using the keypad, the first diget is ommited if I type at more than a 1st-grader's pace.

Subsequent numbers can be keyed in quickly, but that first one (and the 'switch' to 'dialing mode') takes forever, and will eat digets.

This occurs on 2 7100i models I own, can anything be done? This gets me 5-6 times EVERY day!

That has happened a couple of times on my 8700g. It sounds like the BB was working on higher priority function and got hung up on making dialing the higher priority function. About the only thing you could try is to make sure you have the most current version OS.

Nope, this will happen quite reliably whenever the BB has the screen dimmed (ie I haven't touched it in the last 15 seconds) and I dial a number.

I just always use the phone key first then start he number. Works well for me since I use the address book alot and if you hold it a few secs from the home screen it will go directly to the address book.

Yes, but every now and again I'd like to, you know, just dial numbers on my phone, and have it make a call

There has got to be a better way.

I have learned to just hit the phone button first. It seems to work a lot better than just typing the number from the home screen, as I have experienced what you have described many times.

Mybe I've gotten used to it because my phone lock after 5 mins of inactivity, so I end up typing a password a lot anyhow, so what's one extra step to get it to be a phone?
