Default Newb used 8700 SIM Card Error

Please Login to Remove!

I got a used 8700c from a family friend who upgraded. I inserted my SIM, but it won't work. When I turn the wireless on, it says "Insert SIM Card" even when it its inserted. I'm not a total newb, the card is at least inserted correctly! When I select SIM card options under the advanced options menu, it says "Invalid SIM." Where do I go from here? Its a cingular phone, I put in my SIM card from a V3 Razr, also Cingular.

Perhaps the phone has to be re-activated with the new SIM from your Razr? You might also have to subscribe to a Blackberry data plan as well as a voice plan, but the best bet is to contact Cingular and ask them to help you with the changeover from your Razr to your 8700c.

Good luck...

The data plan doesn't matter when it comes to SIM card errors. Your SIM definitely works in the RAZR? It's possible that there's an issue with the 8700c. Try cleaning the contacts.

and as a side note, get the data plan PRIOR to turning wireless on! Read some horror stories on here about people cancelling their data plan and getting an outrageous bill because the BB still attempts to connect.

Four options:

1. The SIM is burnt
2. The SIM has not been activated
3. The contacts on the phone have been damaged
4. The SIM is faulty

Curious - did you have a data plan you used with the Razr?

You'll need to call Cingular and tell them you changed out your phone. You are free to have a BB with no data plan if you choose, but you'll still need to tell them you changed your phone and they will update the IMEI # in their records. There is nothing wrong w/ your sim, Blackberries are just special Now if you had a Treo or another Razr (or any GSM phone) and swap out the sim its no prob.
