Angry Address Book has names that will NOT sort correctly

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Blackberry 7130e. I added my 250+ contacts from my Outlook 2003 with a sync. However, there are about 10 names that are not displayed in alphabetical order. They are listed at the bottom of the address list. My sort option is First name, Last name. If I change my option to Last Name, First Name, there are also about 10-12 names that are not sorted in the list and appear at the bottom of the list, but some of them are different names and some the same.

I have tried deleting the contacts in Outlook, sync, recreate contact in Outlook, sync again. The contacts STILL appear at the bottom of the list. The only way I can get the contact to appear in the list is to change the FIRST NAME to a different FIRST NAME, leaving the rest of the info the same. So the FIRST NAME (or last name in the LAST NAME FIRST NAME sort) is the problem.

Any ideas how to fix this problem. It is driving me a little crazy.

I had the same problem until I figured out that when I opened to edit the contact there was no name in the Last name slot, but both names were in the Firstname block.

I checked that too... but the names are entered correctly in Outlook... with First Name and Last Name in their correct fields.

Another strange thing... I deleted a name that was working correctly (by accident) and so I had to recreate it. Now IT will not fall into place in the address list and is listed at the bottom of the list. It was Vicki.

The 10-12 non conforming people have FIRST names that all start with an P, R, S, T, U, V and they all come after the final name of William.

However, not ALL of the names that start with these letters do that, just some of them. For example, Rose falls into the list in the correct place, while Rita is one of the names that come after William.

And if I sort by LAST Name, SOME of the people whose last name starts with a P, R, S, T, U, V, W falls at the bottom of the list after the last name of Wommack. And it is not the same people unless both of their names start with one of those letters.

Does anyone see any pattern here that I'm missing?

Anna

Try resetting the phone by taking out the battery. Worked for me.

Although it took me about 100 trys to get the battery cover off, taking the battery out did the trick. After the reboot, the problem was corrected. And I was able to add a new name that fell right into place.

Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I also had trouble removing the battery cover.

Here is a solution. Start by holding the phone upright with the battery door facing you.
Looking at the button you push to release the door the trick is to push on the top edge of the button not the middle or the bottom.

Another thing I did to get a grip on the slippery battery door was to place a piece of masking tape on the door with a portion of it hanging loose towards the bottom so I can pull on it lightly while pressing in on the top of the release button.

Once I developed this method I found that it is now very easy to remove the door.
