Default BB used as modem

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I've just bought a BB 8700g in Italy (provider is TIM). On my contract I have an option called "Free Internet" which allows to navigate without any fee, but ONLY IF I USE the BlackBerry APN for the connection.

So I called the Customer Service in order to get the configuration settings to use it as a modem, but they told me that is option is available just when using the BB Internet Browser, and not when using the device as a modem (they also told me that officially the 8700 is not meant to be used as a modem at all)...

Searching in the forum I've been able to use the BB as a modem (linked to my laptop), but only by putting in the provider APN settings.... and therefore paying all the traffic...

Does anyone know if a BlackBerry APN even exist for this issue and what are the settings to use?

Thank you

No, the BlackBerry specific APN cannot be used for tethering as it only routes traffic to RIM or to your corporate BES. The only way to tether is by using a WAP or other internet APN, like you're doing. The cost of doing so depends on the provider. For example, T-Mobile USA BlackBerry subscribers have free, unlimited, unrestricted access to the internet through our WAP APN.

You have the possibility, but there will be fees associated with such usage.

Is your provider also TIM? Or are you on Vodafone?

There is nothing that you need to do on the BB, just on your PC.

The instructions in this thread will guide you through that:
[User] HOWTO: Use BlackBerry As Modem For Laptop!

You will need to know TIM's WAP APN.
