I was wondering as teh 8703 from sprint has built in gps can we use it as a gps receiver with maps software. I need to try to get ahold of my maps program but what do you all think.

Maybe someone has a program that will make it work

thanks in advance

No. It does not have the proper NMEA information for output.

HUH? The 8703e on Sprint does have GPS enabled and works beautifully with GPS navi software..

maybe i may just need to install the software and see if it will pick up the gps in the blackberry.

I think i have to have the desktop manager open right, just like if I was using it as a modem?

I know it has GPS, but it cannot output it's GPS signal to a laptop.

You can try it, but I am almost certain it won't work.

I was quite certain a few people have posted that they have used SPOT to use this feature. Sprint also offers a subscription service to do this at their website.

I have this phone and thought it might be fun to use it as such. I just don't have a need for it as much as I thought it might be cool....to find a way to kill this battery even faster.

Default Yes - GPS plus 87xx

You can get a good bluetooth GPS receiver for under $100. It will eat up less battery than the internal GPS since the bluetooth function requires less power than the GPS
