Default 8703e - IM and TCP/IP

Please Login to Remove!

Iíve been having a lot of trouble with third party IM apps on my 8703e but finally I settled on IM+ after Yak-on mysteriously stopped connecting, Ramble kept crashing and Google talk could not successfully access enough Jabber servers to manage all my contacts.

Though IM+ has a TCP/IP mode which worked very well initially, it stopped working after a day and I am now forced to use the slower HTTP mode.

Iíve also had problems with other apps, such as BBTodayís weather and stock features, though I canít really verify if they actually use the TCP/IP stack. When I called Verizon Wireless, they claimed they arenít blocking any particular protocols or ports on their end.

Has anyone who uses IM+ been successful in connecting via TCP/IP regularly? Are there settings which must be adjusted on the 8703e? I searched the Options menu extensively and found no TCP settings as 8700 devices from other carriers seem to have.

I am having a lot of problems connecting to any IM software...it just never connects. From what i've read the only way to get around it is to get on a BES server.

my company is going to set it up next month, cant wait.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It looks like I'm not the only one having this issue. I would give Yak-On another try, but seeing as I've already bought IM+, I'm a bit reluctant to spend more money.

If anyone gets TCP/IP working for IM+, please post here.

Try setting your TCP's APN. See HOWTO Use BlackBerry As Modem For Laptop!

Well, it's not for lack of trying that I gave up on the GoogleTalk route. I couldn't find any reliable Jabber servers for AIM or Yahoo.

If you could point me in the direction of a few I'll give it another shot. And I did try the usual servers listed in the GoogleTalk thread elsewhere in these forums.

I'm agreeing with the original poster that we 8703e users are getting shitty service when we want to use chat clients because we have no tcp/ip options...
