Exclamation 8703e "BLOCK ERASE 6 - RESET"

Please Login to Remove!

Approx. once a week, HH is locked with "BLOCK ERASE 6 - RESET". Attempts to reset through removal of battery or alt,cap delete are unsuccesful. Only way to reset is to hold track wheel down repeatedly until device eventually reboots.

Anyone having this issue w/ VZW and 4.2.0.10 desktop software?

This is actualy the first time I've heard about any 8703 quirks. Interesting to see that both of these 'Block Erase - 6" posts involve the 8703 though.

Block Erase 6 Reset error message

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem
The following error message appears on your BlackBerry device:

Block Erase 6 Reset

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cause
This error may result from corrupt data on your BlackBerry device.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resolution
To resolve this problem, complete task 1 and then, if necessary, complete task 2.

Task 1
Reload the BlackBerry Device Software by following these steps:

Install the BlackBerry Device Software on your computer.
Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer.
Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Complete one of the following:

If the Application Updates Available window appears, click Update Now. The Application Loader wizard appears.
If the Application Updates Available window does not appear, double-click Application Loader. The Application Loader wizard appears.
Click Next.
If prompted, enter your BlackBerry device password and click Next.
When the Application Loader wizard is finished examining the configuration on the BlackBerry device, the Device Application Selection screen appears listing the applications available for installation.
Select the check boxes next to the applications you want to load. Check boxes that are already selected represent applications that already exist on the BlackBerry device. If you clear those check boxes, the applications will be removed from the BlackBerry device.
Click Next.
If the On the Device Backup screen appears, choose whether or not to automatically back up the BlackBerry device.
Click Next.
Click Finish to begin loading the BlackBerry Device Software.
Click Close when the software is finished loading.
Task 2

If the error still appears after completing task 1, complete the following steps:

Remove the battery from the BlackBerry device.
If a media card is inserted in the BlackBerry device, remove it.
Connect the BlackBerry device to your computer using the USB cable.
Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager and click Option > Connection Settings.
In the Connection Settings window, click Detect. Make sure the BlackBerry device is detected.
Close the Connection Settings window.
In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
In the Application Loader wizard, click Next to start the loading process. The Device Application Selection screen appears displaying the applications available to load onto your BlackBerry device.
Select the check boxes next to the applications you want to load. Check boxes that are already selected represent applications that already exist on the BlackBerry device. If you clear those check boxes, the applications will be removed from the BlackBerry device.
Click Next. The Completing the Application Loader Wizard appears listing the applications to be installed and removed from the BlackBerry device.
Click Advanced.
Select the Erase all application data check box, and then click Next.
Select the check box beside Do not automatically backup the application data during the loading process. This check box is selected because the data on the BlackBerry device may be corrupt.
Reinsert the battery into the BlackBerry device.
On the Application Loader wizard, click Next to proceed with the loading process.
When the process is complete, the Application Loader wizard will display the following message: The loading operation was successful.
Reinsert the media card if one was removed earlier.
Close the Application Loader wizard.

Lightbulb

I don't know if this is too late, but here is my experience with this "blockerase 6" message.

I just had a 8707v terminal having this problem at startup.
I did try all I could do like flashing the terminal (a bit more than 10 trials...)with the last ROM I had (PBr4.1.0_rel481_PL3.1.0.17_A4.1.0.355). At initializing (after loading JVM & reconnection), I always had this message. It was last friday.

I chosed to remove the battery for the whole week-end (terminal at work).

Now we are monday, I tried to flash the terminal, then it went simply OK (update/flash thru desktop manager) !
I dont if this is the fact that the terminal stayed without the battery for a long time, but sounds like it goes really better.

I don't know if this is THE solution, but I wanted to share the info.

Best regards,
Raphael.
