Does BT drain battery?

Hi all,
I'm behind the times, and just got my first BT headset to use with my 8700 (Jabra JX10)

For those of you who use a BT headset, do you just leave BT turned on, on your BB? Or do you only turn it one if you know you're going to use the headset?

Could I leave BT turned on all day without killing the battery?
Seems sort of a pain to turn it on and off all day, each time you want to use the headset.

Thanks all!

I leave BT on with minimal battery damage overall. In older OS versions it was notorious for draining but in my current 8703e it's been fine. -Pk

Leaving BT on will deplete the battery. I tend to only leave it on when I'm at work or home and my BB is on the charger. Otherwise I turn it off for the most part. As packetknife said though some versions of OS deplete faster than others.

Much depends on the device. I see only a little difference in leaving BT on all day on the 8700c. Later BT devices have a low power sleep mode that just sips the power compared to early BT devices.

I have noticed very little additional battery drain with the BT headset. I usually leave it on all day.

I am on m headset all day 10/12 hours and I can get like 20+ hours out of a battery.

Now if you were a phone, and you had to send and receive information all day, would you be tired?

That was a joke for all of the negative feedback I'm about to get. :D

I'm running v .359 with my BT and I can tell a significant drop in my battery when I'm using my BT. When it's off I can get through the day and have near 60% left. With BT, I'm in the red near 20%.

If your headset is off, then turn bluetooth off. Your BB will start searching for the headset and will cause the battery to drain faster.

I leave my BT on most of the day but I don't notice a significant drainage. I try to charge my bb whenever possible so that helps.

I have an older headset and did notice a drain when using it so now I have the front convenience key set to turn BT on and off. Seems easier than scrolling through the menus to toggle it.

It makes a significant difference whether discoverable is on or not. Power consumption is less with it off.

I have the 8703e with Sprint and the battery life is outstanding. I leave the BT on all day and I still have full power after talking most of the day. Granted, when I am not using my phone, I put it in the cradle, connected to my laptop, but generally I never worry about losing power throughout the day when I am out of the office. Just my nickle.
