Default Enhanced Caller ID?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Treo 650 and an BB 8700c. On the Treo I have this great program called CityID. It basically tells you the city and state of the person calling you in addition to whatever info the caller ID spits out.

Is there anything like this for the BB? I did some searches but couldnt find anything like it.

Well the way I believe it works is that it has a databased of area codes (just a small txt file) and it reads the first 3 digits off of the caller id, and displays the info...here is a link to the program for the treo

Hmmm.... to have all of the npa-nxx's in the US is fairly large... probably around 12-13MB worth of text I think and even more when you add database overhead. Plus this info changes a lot so you would need to do a lot of updates. :-/ it would be cool though if someone figured out a good way to do it on Blackberry!

The databse is 289992 bytes in size - about a quarter of a megabyte only. The update problem however is real. I don't know if Cequint keeps periodically updating the database and makes it available

I can't imagine how they would get all of that info into a file that size, but I guess they figured out someway.
Anyway, though, NANPA makes all of the npa-nxx info publicly available for download, so I am sure it would be possible to have a backend server that auto generates updates which the blackberry could auto-detect and apply.

Anyone vouch for the accuracy of these programs; with wireless number portability, the information isn't as accurate - IMHO. For example, my wife's mobile number, which has been carried from carrier to carrier ties back to a town I've never even heard of and I'm not even sure the number of my cell phone is in the same county where I live OR work...
