Reload OS issues

I have an 8703e and in my profile i have messages set to "notify_bikehorn". Problem is, when i receive an email, it places another small 1-2 second ringer in front of the one that is set. i have changed profiles (it doesnt do it on other ringers), pulled the battery and am now trying to reload the os......

Problem is, when i downloaded the handheld software and installed it, it doesnt give me the option to install it when launching desktop manager. on top of that, i cant even make it into desktop manager without getting the following error:

"The program [C:\program files\Research in Motion\BlackBerry\Desktopmgr.exe."] caused a problem and is going to close. Would you like to save a dump file?"

Then-i click no and get an application error - "The instruction at "0x01af3392" referenced memory at "0x0000000". The memory could not be "read". Click ok to terminate or cancel to debug.

ADVICE?
