hi im new here and techically illiterate. can someone please provide step by step instructions on how to remove the jvm 102 error. I couldnt get anything done reading instructions.

Welcome and here are some step by step instructions - the "easiest" I can come up with...

Summary: you need to completely wipe out the BlackBerry, and reload the operating system and programs on the BlackBerry.

Step 1: Search for and download a program called "JL_CMNDR" on this forum. Use it to COMPLETELY wipe out the 7100i; the 7100i will show a "507" code on it now - that means it has no operating system.

Step 2: Download the latest 7100i software from the Nextel web site. The URL is https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B9D5EE16489088

Step 3: Execute the file you just downloaded in step 2:

Step 4: Restart Desktop Manager with the now empty 7100i connected. It should reload the OS. This could take up to 20 minutes or more to complete.

You don't. You run it from the PC.

So, I think I know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask it directly. You get this error, you do the thing above, and you loose your address book, right?

If that's the case, I'm bummed.

You lose all data. That's why the Desktop Manager has a Backup/Restore function built in. So you can backup your data periodically.

I know I know. Add that to the list of things I should do. Change my furnace filter more often, go to the dentist every 6 months, etc. I was hoping someone had some magical cure.

JVM 102 error's are a known issue by Rim. Contact your carriers's BB Help Desk Support Line and they should be able to provide you with Rim's phone # or get you to the nearest service and repair center in your area to get you a new 7100i with no charge.

The JVM 102 error is caused by a bad memory/flash card in the device. A new one needs to be sent to you with a newer card in the device. While the reloading of software will help momentarily, the bad card will ensure that the error happens again.
