I have a company blackberry and love it so much I have purchased a second one as my personal mobile phone. Hence have not subscribed to "blackberry" service (but SIM is data enabled). I want to get onto the internet. I have rung Vodafone (NZ) - they were unhelpful because the phone was purchased second-hand - and I just cannot seem to edit my settings to get them onto the system. Any ideas? Its a 8707v, on vodafone NZ.

No, you cannot access the internet from a BlackBerry without a BlackBerry plan. Just having your account data enabled does not work. Without the BlackBerry plan, the only functions that will work are the telephone and SMS.

You can't "edit settings" around the requisite Blackberry data plan. Blackberry data plans are offered by carriers that offer Blackberries because they are required (though I can see why people would suspect that they're just revenue boosters). Your Blackberry must be able to access the Blackberry APN for any data services. Once connected and registered, service books will be automatically pushed to your Blackberry. These service books perform the configuration of your Blackberry for web, email, etc. A non-Blackberry data plan does not provide Blackberry APN access.
