Hello people.

I just ordered my first BB 8700c. It suppose to arrive here tomorrow and I am checking fedex with my tracking number like a mad man. I can't wait for it to get here so I can play with my new toy!

Previoulsy, I had Cingular 8125 phone and I have to say that thing SUCKED. Phone would have terrible reception, it would freeze on me constantly to the point that I had to take out the battery and wait for the stupid thing to boot. It was especially innoying when I had to make a important call. But I would expect that from a device that runs on windows. I also found out that I really didn't need all that junk that the phone comes with. (Ie. Media Player) so after one month, I sold it on ebay and switched back to my free Nokia phone that I got from Cingular when I signed up.

IN any rate, I need something that would allow me to get emails, browse the net when needed, contacts, tasks, to do list and be reliable.

At first I was going to buy 7290, but instead, I bought 8700c. I can't wait to get my hands on it and try out of the cool stuff like installing IM client and always be connected.

I will be using it without BES since we don't have that at work. I will however, get Cingular Blackberry Unlimited Personal data plan. What really aggrevates me that IM messages are not part of the data plan. WTF? That's stupid. After reading many threads here, I will use the IM client so it counts towards my data plan. Another thing that was not clear for me when I talked to Cingular is that, when I receive email messages, that ALSO does not count as data. What the hell is that all about????

So I guess the question is, can I still, somehow with some kind of hack, receive emails to receive my work emails (exchange server which works with few blacberry's we have at work) to my BB device without buying other plan that includes 1000 messages? (which counts towards IMs and Email Messages) ?? I am not concerned about browsing the internet, I have a laptop for that, but I do want to stay connected with emails and IMs.

What are my options?

Thanks!
PS: Great forum!

All email is data and free if you have the unlimited plan.

Dude, relax. Deep breath. The data plan will include all data use, including email, IM clients, web surfing, etc.

That's not right. It depends on the IM client. If it uses SMS for message delivery then you'll get billed for SMS (pretty straightforward if you think about it) use unless you have an SMS add-on plan. Again, it varies from IM app to IM app. Read the specs for what you intend to use.

Sadly, you can't rely on Cingular for accurate data. Email is part of data. Unless someone sends you an SMS via the email gateway or you decide to send an email via the SMS gateway (not something you'd accidentally do).

You don't need to worry about the plan. Email is covered by your Blackberry data plan. Check out the FAQ's for your email delivery options as there are a number of ways to set up things.

Yeah.. now after reading until 3am.. most things are clear for me lol

Thanks for your replies! One thing that I am still not clear on is how will I set this BB up so I could receive emails from my own domain that I use. It's SMTP.

I will probably ask questions once I get there..

Damn this FedEx man is lacking! Scheduled for delivery - 4:30pm. :(

I guess I better keep reading until I get her.

Does it take some time for Cingular to activate the data plan? Should I call them now and order the data plan in case they take long time to set it up? or shoudl I wait for my baby to get here and then call them?
