Default Cingular New Data Plan users READ THIS!

Well... so I read every thread in regards to data plans and Cingular. I came up to the conclusion after talking to 4 reps, that they do not know their own plans.

Here is what happened.

Got my BB 8700c today. Got it off ebay. The guy didn't even erase anything from it and left his SIM card in there. Anyways, I wipe it clean and re-installed BB software v 4.1.0 (whichever was the newest one on their website) I think the mistake that I made was that I left that guys SIM card in there. More about that below.

So I call Cingular to get my BB Unlimited Personal Plan which shows on their website at 34.99. Dude on the other end told me to reboot my phone in 15 minutes. So I do.. and I got my cool Cingular browser and icon that says "Setup personal email"

So I check back with Cingular on their website and lo and behold... under data plans I see BLACKBERRYUNL 44.99! WTF!

I call back... guy tells me he can't help me because he can't call off my order because system doesn't let him. He gives me number to their Secondary Sales Group... I call them.. chick tells me she can't help me and transfers me to RIM. RIM picks up and tells me to call back to Cingular LMAO

So I call back to them and tell the person what';s going on. He transfers me to their Data people. Well....I told the guy that wrong plan got attached to my account and that I wanted BB Personal Unl plan... he then tells me.. no problem sir, plan is not 34.99 for you, it's 29.99 because you have voice plan with us. Thank you very much...

So now, happy as I can be, I put my my own SIM card in the phone and try to setup my email account. Well. .it tells me to put in user name and password... I dont' know what it is, so I click "Setup new user". It then tells me that "Associated PIN already has an account" WTF

I am thinking it's because I formated and setup new OS on the phone with the other person's SIM card? I am re-doing everything now with my SIM in the phone so we will see. When I talked to Cingular Data person, he told me that I would have to call whoever had my phone before and delete the account that is associated to that PIN. Right after I hung up with the guy, I remembered that I installed OS with other persons sim card.

So now, I am installing everything with my SIM card and hopefully this will work.

I freaking love this thing. Once I get it all setup, watch out! This is the best, easiest to use phone I ever had. Speaker phone is AMAZING and I love the side wheel.

Oh btw.. .when I was on hold, I clicked on Yak-On icon and it froze my phone :( I had to reboot it. It wouldn't even hang up the call!

damn.. I guess I need that guy that I bought the BB from to delete his BB email account. I re-installed the OS with my SIM in it, but I still get his freaking emails!

reply to the emails and ask the sender to contact the guy ( not email ) and tell him what happened. If your lucky someone will know him and give him a call on a land line.

I got it all done. I called RIM and they put Cingular on the line. Cingular guy detached the previous user to the PIN. I am setting up my account now!

Glad you got it to work...
Basically, what happened was the last guy already had a BIS account associated with that BlackBerry. His SIM had nothing to do with it. Cingular Data Support has the ability to delete the account associated with the BlackBerry so that you can create a new one.

Another quick note. If you decide to move to a new BlackBerry, log on to your BIS account from the new BlackBerry and it will prompt you to move your BIS account to the new BlackBerry. This will allow the next user of your used BlackBerry to create a new account without any issues.

Congrats on getting your new BlackBerry 8700c.

Bradley

Thanks! So far, I really like it.

I am having some issues with getting all this email stuff sorted out. Basically, all I want is emails that arrive to two different accounts go to my bb device. I did set them both up with BB via their website which I was sucesfull at. I tested email flow and I can send email.

I have 2 accounts:

one, is my work email with Exchange running POP just for the phone devices reason

second is my own domain name

Both were sucesfully setup with BB via their website.

But, when I send email to both of those accounts from a computer, email arrives at the computer but not in my BB device :(

Do I have to have mycingular.blackberry.com account setup in order for this to work? I created it initially, but then I deleted it leaving only my domain and work email addresses in there.

Edit: I think the problem was that I had outlook open when I tested both accounts, therefore, outlook got the message first. I closed outlook and tested both accounts again and I got my emails.

From what I can gather it will take up to 15 minutes for an email to get to your bb once it hits your POP account inbox.

yeah it looks like it.. I am getting all those emails now. Little confusing because I didn't put anything specific in subject line.. so I got bunch of "test" emails lol dont' know which one tested what lol ah well.

The only thing that doesn't work is when I try to delete email in my BB and I choose delete from BB AND MAILBOX. After I open my outlook, I still get those emails even though I deleted them and told my pretty BB to delete them off the server too!

Your mail client (Outlook) could be getting to the email before your BlackBerry gets to it if you are using Exchange as a POP3 server.
